Drive/Tranny question

Guys, I need some info. For about the last week or so, when I start my 99 4runnner and back up, it acts alittle sluggish when I then put it in drive. The transimission isnt slipping, it is just like it is not getting enough power. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I am scheduled to have the transmission fluid and filter changed tommorrow just as regular maintanence. Do my injectors, fuel filter, etc. need cleaned?

Thanks guys.

By no means am I an expert, but without throwing any CEL codes- some things that come to mind right away are:
1. Dirty MAF-Mass Air Flow Sensor-get it cleaned.
2. I can't imagine it is the fuel injectors, but it is possible.
3. Have all of your fluids been changed in a timely manner?
4. What about your exhaust?

I just bought the 4runner about three months ago. I have changed the oil and just had the tranny fluid changed today. Can I clean the MAF? Also, how would I be able to tell if it was the exhaust?

Thanks

Explain a little more about "acts a little sluggish". Does the engine seem to run fine? Does it rev up but the truck doesn't move? In reverse it's fine then in drive it acts up? Does the engine sputter/miss? When you had your transmisson service done, did they say anything about your old fluid? Gunk in the pan etc...?

OK, I will try to explain as best I can. In the morning I have to back out of my spot first. When I shift into reverse, I can feel the vehicle shift into reverse, and if I take my foot off of the brake the vehicle will start to move backwards. But when I shift into drive I can not feel the vehicle shift into gear as hard as when I shift into reverse, and when I take my foot of the brake the vehicle does not go forward. To get the vehicle to move forward, I have to apply more pressure to the gas pedal than I normally would. After I drive it for a few minutes it is fine.

My mechanic didnt say anything about gunk in the tranny fluid.

From what you are saying the engine runs fine. So I wouldn't bother with checking injectors, maf or any of that. Since your transmission seems to be fine after it runs a bit I wouldn't think anything major is wrong with it either. I'm no tranny expert, I'm hoping with your further explanation someone who has had the same problem will chime in. What makes sense to me is something is sticking like a valve in the transmission valve body or a shift solenoid is going out. Is your runner a 4WD? Have you tried shifting the transfer case through the gears, 4Lo, 4Hi, back to 2Hi? The link below is from another forum, this guy said his problem was one of his brakes sticking. You could try backing into your spot and then you can go straight into Drive and see if it changes. Try putting it into 1st or 2nd to see if that makes a difference. Search around in other forums and this one. You'll probably find lots of things to check out.

Same exact thing happened to me this a.m.

PSUArcher you described exactly the same thing the last few times i've driven my car. It just started acting up like that and kicks in only when gas is pushed.
It tends to happen on cold starts and once car has been running a bit it goes away. It's a 2000 with only 85K on it and had about 10K worth of work last year when it was hit while parked.

I will share what I find out.

Transmission hesitation from Reverse to Drive.

I recently replaced 2 of the 7 solenoids in the valve body.(Dealer items only) I also changed the fluid and filter. After that, it hesitates going from reverse to drive. Is this common of is there an adjustment anywhere?
