What size rims & tires to run on my 99 4runner???

Hi!

I have a 99 4runner with a 3 inch Toytec lift. I want to upgrade my tires to 33/12.5/15...does anyone know if those will fit? its mostly just for looks and light off-roading.
also, what rims do I get to go with them? backspacing etc...im new to all this so please help!!!

12.5 is pretty wide, they'll probably still rub when you're turning unless you trim and cut your wheel wells a lot and they'll hit the frame at full lock. You'll need about 3.5" backspacing which is hard to find so you'll probably end up with 4.5" BS wheels and have to run 1" spacers to get the 3.5" you need.

That will be too much BS'ing for the rear though (the fenders will sit on the tires) so you'll want to not run rear wheel spacers and keep the 4.5" BS on the back wheels. Even thenm, I'm almost positive the rear tires will still be too wide to tuck in the wheel wells without a lot of cutting/grinding.

Really, your best bet is to go 32x11.5R15 OR get 16" rims and go with 285/75R16s.

are the 285/75R16s equivalent to the 32s? im mostly just trying to make it beefier looking. doesnt have to be 33's necessarily. if i go with the smaller tire will i still need to cut anything or will i be good?

285/75R16s are 33x11s. It's the 12.5" width on the other tires that's gonna give you problems. You may have to do minor trimming with the 285s - cut a little off the plastic fender molding and hammer a pich weld flat but that's what we've all done to get any 33s on. The 285s will tuck nicely in your rear wheel wells unlike the 33x12.5s.

You can run 285s with 4.6" backspacing (stock rims), but you may need 1/4" spacrs for the front, luckily they're only $5 (scroll all the way down):

Brian, do you use these spacers on your rig? If so, is there any noticable vibration from using them?

I run some 1" aluminum hub/lug centric spacers, but they cost like $100. I liked the idea of having a little wider track in the front for stability, plus they are balanced so I didn't have to worry about vibrations and they work good. I get by without any rubbing too, although I did do a fair amount of hammering on my fenders. I haven't tried the spacers I linked to, but lots of people run them and I haven't heard any bad reviews.
