xskydivingdudex, your hitch isn't the OEM hitch. Elton H and I have the OEM hitch, and for wheeling, they get caught up because of the less departure angle.

really?! well i guess the dealership we got the 4runner from must have added it before we came to look at it... i like mine tho bc it sit a little higher since the hole is in the bar. Sry for the confusion and assuming its OEM.

Yeah, some 4Runners had it as a dealer add on, and not port installed. The Toyota dealer wouldn't trade me a dealer add on hitch vs the port installed because all of the new 4Runners on the lot had port installed or no hitches. They would've loved to order one for me, but at my cost. Yeah, I aint gonna complain much for what they wanted to charge me at the time ($470).

There's two OEM styles I guess. I had a trailer hitch I got from someone who had a 98.
Its different as it has bolts on the sides instead of welds.
I took it off a while ago.

Correct. the 96-98 had a 3 piece hitch with the sections bolted together. 99-02 was a 1 piece hitch that was welded instead of bolted together

Yeah, the 1st series of the 3rd gens had bolts on the hitch. I unbolted mine off my 98 and cut the hitch receiver off of it because I never used to my 5spd to tow anything.
