Lift & Tire question

I will be getting my lift installed tomorrow and wanted to know what size tire you guys recommend? Its a 97 sr5. I went with the OME 881's up front with the 5mm trim packer and 891's in the rear with a 10mm trim packer. I am also running the 17" tundra wheels.

It seems that everyone goes with the 285/70/17 size so I wanted to see if anyone has went with the 295/70/17 or the 285/75/17 size instead? Do you think they'd fit?

The stock size is 265/65/17 which is 30.6"
The popular choice of 285/70/17 is 32.7"

Just not sure if $800 is worth the additional 2". Maybe the other sizes wont fit so I figured I would ask and see what everyone thought.

I can't say if they'll fit or not for sure, but what do you mean $800 to get an additional .2"? The difference in tires would be more like a $100 to get the .2" difference.

Just copying and pasting my post from the other day:

I have a 3" toytec lift with OME 890s out back, and the adjustible bilstiens with the 600lb coilovers up front. I also have a 1" body lift. I got the FJ cruiser TRD wheels which are 16x7.5" and the goodyear store didn't hessitate to mount my duratracs in a 285/75R16.

My tires DO rub on the front bumper with no flex, while turning. I still need to trim them. I have yet to flex it out to see where else I may have rubbing. I imagine I may have to trim the pinch weld.

But it looks soooo bad ass!!

285/75R17 are bigger diameter tires than 285/75R16.

If a 285/75r16 rubs on mine, then a 285/75R17 will probably rub on his...

2", not .2"

stock is 265/65/17 which is 30.6"
a 285/70/17 is 32.7"
a 295/70/17 is 33.3"
a 285/75/17 is 33.8"

I'm just not sure if the 295/70/17 or the 285/75 will fit ok. There's only like a $10 difference in price per tire so its not a big deal.

I don't have any problems my 285/75R16s being too wide with my 1.5" spacers. It's not even close.

Just out of curiousity Lignum, what is the backspacing of your wheels? Because if you have stock backspacing of 4.625" combined with a 1.25" spacer, you would actually have a new backspacing of 3.375". If this is true, this would cause your front tire to rub the bumper. Your tire would pivot out wider when turning. Anybody, correct me if I'm wrong!

You are probably right, i could probably run smaller spacers, but i think they would be too close to the UCA without them altogether. The wheels are FJ Cruiser TRD Wheels, Not sure of the BS but they are 15mm offset.
