How many miles are too many to start some mods?

As many have read I picked up my 99' a few weeks back. Its in great shape both interior and exterior, but it has a lot of miles (164k) Aside from the occasional warm hard start it seems to be in good shape mechanically.

I've already dumped a few hunsky's to start from square one on all the maintenance type stuff so I think I am good to go there. This includes:

Tranny bypass with Hayden cooler
Changed out both diffs and t-case
Drained and filled tranny
Replaced plugs and wires
Cooling system flush
Air filter / fuel filter (on its way)
Removed and cleaned t-body and ICV and replaced gaskets

Is it too late to throw on a lift and an ARB bumper? With the miles I dont want to start throwing money down a rat hole.

What are some honest opinions out there?

How many miles are on the truck? Ive never owned one vehicle that I didnt mod to my hearts content. I just cant help it. My 4r only had 110k on it when I bought it so I figured Ive got at least another 110k before I have to worry about it. In 4 weeks, Ive already spent over $2k on mods, lol.

Its a disease. You should see my Miata!

i put my arb on at 205K if you take good care of your ride you should see 300K from it at least. just be nice to her and don't ream on the pedal too much.

The only thing I probably woudn't do is supercharge a motor nearing 200k but you shouldn't have issues with most other mods.

Many on here are seeing lots of miles on their trucks, so I wouldn't be too fearful of starting the mods given the mileage on your vehicle.

I will say that if you're going to be doing a lift you might also want to look into replacing some of the bushings as well.

something tells me you are new to toyotas

164k is nothing. seriously...your truck has just been broken in. if you take care if it, you should be able to get at least another 100k out of it before you have to start worrying

Hopefully, 240k isn't too many miles to start modding. That's where my truck's at and I just lifted it 2.5" w/ 255/85s. She runs great!

that 4r looks great, i got 320k on mine and it still works like a champ!

idk about spending to much more money on it though, i really wanted the daystar 2.5 lift kit but im skeptical with 320k miles

Bought mine with a 150 on it put the lift and tires on it at 175 and now at 210 with no problems with wheeling it pretty hard at least once a month and usually twice a month. Just took it on a 1000 mile round trip without a worry in the world. I do however perform the regular maintenance well umm regularly.

Naw, I've had...

80 2wd longbed
85 4x4
92 X-cab V6 4x4 auto
94 X-cab V6 4x4 5speed
95 Celica (wifes old car)
08 Matrix (wifes current car)

Aside from the 80, none had over 120k (even the 85', bought it a few years back and it just rolled 100k, farm truck )

Toyota or not, 164k just seems like a lot of miles and am not sure if I want to add any additional stress to it. Course, could use the excuse to do OME all around to replace the tired suspension...

When my parent's brought the 4runner, it only had 6 miles on the odo..

Now, I'm almost close to 220k miles and she runs like a champ..
