Question Keyless remote / keyless entry reprogramming question(s)

hola,

i have been trying to program a keyless remote that has the identical FCC ID as the prior remote and have not been successful. i have followed the instructions that came with the remote and they are same steps as the ones listed on the forum.

“5. Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should cycle (automatically)
indicating successful entry into programming mode. Return to step 1
if the locks do not cycle at this point.”

i can get into the ‘programming mode’ – the power door locks cycle. but when I do step #6

“6a. Press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter
simultaneously for 1 second.
6b. Immediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons, press the lock button by itself and hold for 2 seconds. Within 3 seconds, the door locks should cycle (LOCK then UNLOCK) once-- indicating successful programming. If the door locks don't cycle, or cycle twice. Repeat steps 6a and 6b--this remote has not been accepted.”

the door locks cycle TWICE – indicating that the remote has ‘not been accepted’. i presume (and that is a big presumption) that since the doors cycled twice when i pressed the remote buttons, and the doors did nothing when i didn’t touch the buttons, that the remote is working and is just being rejected by my t4r.

not sure why it is not accepted, but is it possible that the maximum of 4 remotes had been previously programmed before i bought the (used 1999) t4r? or could the keyless entry system be defective (my other remote works just fine)?

also, if the t4r has hit the max number of remotes, is there a way to clear / or alter that?

any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks! kim

Is there a maximum number of remotes? I've heard of a maximum number of keys (with the immobilizer chip), but not remotes. Is this the 3-button remote (lock/unlock/rear window)?

I just programmed 2 remotes yesterday. My understanding is that you must program them all at the same time as it will no longer recognize any remote programmed during an earlier session. Apparently it creates a new scramble code.

What I figured out, after several unsuccessful attempts, is that the instructions in 6b where it says "immediately" means just that. There must be no hesitation between step 6a and 6b...

6a. Press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter
simultaneously for 1 second.
6b. Immediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons, press the lock button by itself and hold for 2 seconds.
