Masson74 Build Thread
Well so far I have lifted her with OME coils and shocks and added AT ko tires.
I just ordered a third generation specific Baja Rack and a Defiant light bar (pics not of my rig but just to show what it looks like. I went with the two light option.)
Taking her on my first real 4x4 day trip on Saturday near Big Bear CA with my churches 4x4 club. A little nervous but they assured me it wouldnt be too harry. The one guy did laugh at me when I told him I had recently waxed my 4runner.
Pics to come
Dave

He told me that, and wondered when you were bringing your rig in to trial fit it.
I might run down there in the next few weeks so he can try it out on mine. Thanks for the heads up. Paul was one step ahead of you! Thanks.

Are you getting the two three or four light. I am still having trouble deciding.

You should remove your running boards just for the trip, less chance of bending them and you'll have more clearance. But no big deal if you stay on the fire roads. The 1st time I went wheeling i was complete stock with street tires and running boards and the 4runner was very capable. Some Fj owners asked me what i did to the truck I told them it was stock, they where in shock. have fun take lots of pic.

four. IMO two lights don't "fill" the light bar, (spacing is too far between), and with 3, I don't like the one light dead in the middle. but again, just imo

The light bar looks like a really cool idea.

The light bar is great looking. I actually wanted to buy one about a year ago - Paul was saying they were right around the corner. Ended up getting the SW front bumper - glad I didn't wait around for him to finally figure out the 99+ light bar!
I like the 3 light version myself. Can put a pencil beam in the middle and flood/fogs on the outside.
x2 on taking the running boards off for the weekend trip. Only takes 15 min, and the truck looks much better without them. Also might want to cut the lower rubber portion of the rear mudflaps off. This looks good as well IMHO.
Keep up the nice work - anything else in the plans for your truck?

Went offroading this weekend to the base of Slide Peak in the San Bernardino Mountains. A few pics. My friend Nathan and his kid came along and also three other families from our church 4x4 club (the rest of them all had old cheorokees) Waiting on the mud pics from my buddy as my camera batteries ran out before the mud began.

Baja Rack ON!!!!
Well I put the baja rack on yesterday. First I took off the gutters sanded them down and painted them with Krylon BBQ sparaypaint. This stuff is the closest I have found to black powdercoat and it is VERY durable. I also took off my running boards so she is looking very different these days.
I was pleasently surprised as to how quiet this rack is at speed. Way less than I thought it would be. Though more expensive it turned out AWESOME.
Defiant light bar next month!

That rack looks really really good! Glad to hear it's quiet as well....that's the rack I think I'll eventually spring for. I can't fit in my current garage with a rack though, so I probably won't get one for awhile.
Your BFG's are 265/75's right? I've been trying to decide between 265/75's and 285/75's. One day I'm sure I want the 265's, then other days I'm sure I want the 285's. lol
EDIT: Your updated signature answered my question. Thanks.

It did great offroad! My buddies Jeep with the Fox shocks could go about a third faster than me but he paid triple for his shocks and coils. I am very pleased. I did get a few brush scratches but I guess that is all part of the game and she is broken in a bit more.
