Power door lock issues

I have searched this forum and did not find a specific answer to my problem. One day this winter, my power locks started going crazy locking and unlocking. After searching this forum, I felt that the switch had just gotten wet, once it got warmer that day, the problem went away. Now, the only way I can lock the doors is to manuelly push each lock down and sometimes that does not even work. If I use the lock button on the drivers/ passengers door, they will lock but immediately unlock. If I push them when the 4R is running, sometimes they will work. If I use the remote to lock them, they will lock and immediately unlock. Has any one had this problem or does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong. I checked the drivers side door where the wires run into the body, could not see where any of them were worn through. My next thing is to pull the switch of the doors and test them.

Dude! I've never heard of that on any car.

My locks have the only problem of not cycling when they're too hot, say, if i parked in the sun for too long. They work fine once cooled...

This though, this is beyond me.

Well...I have a similar prob in my Honda. I replaced the Door Lock Module which is located behind driverside door panel with wires from lock switch itself. Might work, might not. Again this was on my Honda. Sorry havn't played with my Runner much, it's been very good to my since I bought it a couple years back.

Man, I saw a 4Runner that looks EXACTLY like your avatar yesterday, only without running boards, sorry, don't know why camera focus didn't work

It almost sounds like your 4Runner thinks the keys are still in the ignition.

I know on my 4Runner as well as my wife's Tundra and the Tacoma we used to have if you leave the keys in the ignition and open the door and hit the lock button they doors will lock and then immediately unlock as a safety so you don't lock the keys in the vehicle.

That may be a function of the door lock module, I’m not sure. I don’t have one, but this is where a factory electrical system manual would be a big help.

I dont have a solution, but this happened on my 2nd gen as well... and sometimes it would lock all but passengers front...eventually developed a problem where my key (albeit REALLY old) would not turn the cylinders from the outside.

Does any body know if it is possible to disconnect the power locks so you have to manuelly lock them. A way that will not cause other problems? I manuelly locked them last night and this morning, it was unlocked, all doors.

The problem has gotten worse, it rained all day and this evening, my wife noticed that the locks kept cycling. I went and pulled the kick panel off exposing the fuse box. I unplugged both of the wire bundles coming from the drivers door, no luck, kept cycling. I noticed that if I had my hand on the lower part of the fuse box, (below the fuses where two wire bundles plug in), I could feel the clicking as it cycled. I looked in my hayes manual but could not figure out what those wire bundles were for so I did not unplug them. I ended up pulling the 30 amp Power fuse which total shut off all power to the doors, rear gate and moon roof. Does anybody know what/ where the door lock module is. I really don't care if the power locks work but I would really like everything else to work.

Power Locks not working

This is happening to my 96 4Runner, too. It started after a heavy downpour, also. Sometimes the locks go crazy locking and unlocking in the middle of driving. Also, the "door ajar" light on the dash is on. It seems to act as if it thinks the door is still open. This also make it so I can't use the auto dome light feature, because it will never turn off. Anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?

This has happened to my 4runner as well, locks going crazy locking and unlocking. It started after I got the door panel really wet one time in the rain. Even after I thought it had all dried, the locks would go crazy every now and then for about a year after too, I never did figure it out. This was about 2 years ago and it has stopped since, I'm pretty sure it was just the wetness.

Although still to this day I will not get out of the car with the keys still inside without first rolling down the window just in case!

Something similar is happening after rain or car wash on my '99 (factory alarm w/ 3-button remote). For a day or two after a rain, the doors will lock themselves after about 1 minute with no door activity (opening or shutting). I can unlock them just fine using the fob, but no matter what, after about 1 minute, they lock again. Now I really have to worry about leaving my key inside!

Anyone have any clues? It must be water related, but where? Isn't the door lock module in the rear hatch door?

And to make matters worse, my drivers door lock cylinder won't turn at all, not even a bit. Passenger side is fine, and all doors unlock when the key is used in that door, which I think is normal.

Grrrrrrr...

I guess it's "good" that mine lock themselves rather than unlock. That would suck...walk away from the truck thinking all is fine, but come back and it's unlocked itself and all my stuff is gone!

Has any on found water at the kick panel on the drivers side? I know sometimes they put the vip remote/alarm ecm there?
Water could come from the roof and enter via sunroof drain(if detached) or just run down the weather stripping and enter there?
Next time a good rain comes remove the trim/kick panel and look for water. Has happened to land cruisers to.
ALTHOUGH THE LAND CRUISERS ECM IS IN THAT PANEL

After a recent rain I found water under the wire loom near the driver side foot-well. Not sure where it came from, but I'm guessing from the torn weather stripping in the area.

We really need to find an aftermarket supplier of weather stripping!
