2nd Gen. rims on 3rd Gen. T4R

Are there any reasons why I would not want the "cross style" 2nd Gen. alloys on my 98? I know they are 15" rims but I am unsure of the offset. I have done a couple of searches but come up empty. I can pick up a set locally real cheap, so I want to use them for my winter tires. Some of you might not like the style, but they have always been my favorite. Let me know what you think. Thanks

If your 4runner came from the factory with 15" rims then i am 95% sure they will work, as many 2nd gen's use 3rd gen wheels, i would assume the offsets are similar. But you need to have come from the factory with 15" rims, or else you cant put a 15" rim on because they wont clear the front brakes.

I think the bolt pattern is the same (6 on 5.5), but the backspacing might be different. You need ~ 4-4.5" BS depending on what size tires you plan on running.

So I have 265/70r16 now but the sticker on the door jamb says 225/75r15 for tire size. So either someone upgraded to the 16 alloy at purchase or at some later date. But, when I looked at the clearance that the caliper has now I do not know if the smaller rim will work. Maybe the guy will let me try one on the truck before I buy them. Thanks for the replies.

No, you can't fit them, yours werent upgraded later, everyones door jambs says that, and your 16's on now means it did have 16's leaving the factory.

I think all SR5s came with the bigger brakes and require a 16" wheel to clear the caliper. I think there is a reason you don't see previous gen Runner wheels on a 3rd gen very often if at all.

Yeah, they are ugly, but i wouldnt mind a set as winter wheels but they wont fit mine. Nah, the SR5's were available with small wheels, just ask LINY4runner.

There you go hating on my favorite rims! J/K I appreciate the info, it saved me a 20 mile drive to see the rims. I really do like the 2nd Gen. rims though. I guess it is because when I was young and first married they were on the T4R,s I could not afford. Now I am not so young and married 20 years and still can not afford a new T4R LOL. That is why I got me a 3rd Gen. Thanks again for the help.
