I appreciate that perspective! I decided on this faster than I decide on most big purchases, because after doing a lot of reading around the forum, it felt like the number of people I saw satisfied with their OME lifts far outnumbered the people who were satisfied with any other type of lift, and I knew I wanted a large enough lift to clear 33" tires, which from what I can tell meant it had to be at least a 3" lift.

Also, since I was able to get the whole package for well below market value, I think I could switch at relatively low overall cost if need be.

But who knows -- I may end up wishing I spent longer thinking about it!

Front options are:
  • 880 1" lift coil for stock weight.
  • 881 2.5" lift coil for stock weight.
  • 883 3" lift coil designed for 100 lbs. additional front weight.
  • 882 3" lift coil designed for 150+ lbs additional front weight.
  • A top plate spacer can be combined with the 881 coil for a full 3" lift
for the rear you can choose from:
  • 906 2" lift coil
  • 890 3" lift coil
  • 891 3" lift coil designed for additional weight.
Pros: Provides a decent amount of lift, gives a quality ride.
Cons: Not adjustable, more expensive than spacers. can sag over time.

[/QUOTE]

So whats the most reputable source for purchasing the 891 3" lift coils for the rear? I'm looking around online and haven't found a decent source yet. also am considering replacing the rear shocks while I'm doing the springs. Whats a good shock match for the 891 springs? usually have about 100-200lb daily and more for trips.

1st time ordering a lift so right or wrong I ordered OME890's and 5100's from Wheelers during the there Black Fri sale I have not received yet so have no experience other than what I have read and talking with Wheelers and what I wanted to accomplish. 2.0" lift and 100lbs normal and maybe 300-400lbs on weekends without going over sprung and riding like a truck LOL

I believe the table you provided for the front shocks may have the info for the 882 and 883 reversed if you look at the numerical progression? I order 5100's and 883 for the front with a 200lb winch bumper combo.

OME-964R - Old Man Emu Rear Coils (96-02 4Runner)

Designed for superior performance across all terrain, an Old Man Emu suspension upgrade by ARB will provide noticeable improvements to a vehicle’s performance, including load carrying capacity and control characteristics.

(2) OME Coils, select from dropdown:

906 - Approximately 2" Lift - Medium Load - Stock Weight
890 - Approximately 2-2.5" Lift - Heavy Load (330 lbs -GVW)
891 - Approximately 2-2.5" Lift - Heavy Load (Constant 660 Lbs -GVW)

I'm looking for new rear coils for my 3rd gen. I am looking at these two and wonder what the differences are for others? Will either of these require longer shocks? I have toytec shocks, but I'm not sure what my coils are since they were put on by the previous owner and when loaded up on my last trip i had a significant sag in the rear. I want to correct that and I don't mind positive rake either.
Can anyone link to the HD toytec coils? Are these what the 3" lift coils are?
in this case, I'm leaning toward the 3" toytec coils over the OME.

Preferences??

You will definitely need longer shocks to take full advantage of the flex from the longer springs. I ran 1994 Land Cruiser Rear Shocks on my 99 with 7 Wrap LC Spring and they were perfect. I ran them with a Daystar 1.5 Spacer in the rear because the 7 Wraps were just too tall. They worked well with both rear setups. If you are going over 2 inches, I would advise a Panhard Correction kit as well.

I am now running 5th Gen TRD Pro Springs and KYBs for for a stock 2001 4Runner. They 5th Gen Springs have me sitting right at 23 inches Hub to Fender. I have right at 1.5 inches of rake, which makes the side profile look less like an old lady drives it....

Hi All,
Great info on this site and this thread in particular. It looks like my stock 2000 Limited is going to get the Tundra fr. springs and shocks. My question is, will Tundra rear shocks work with OME (or comparable 2 1/2 - 3 inch lift progressive) rear coils with the extra travel? I'd like to match the shocks if possible.

Thanks

I did the tundra springs and billies up front and LC springs and tokico shocks on back. Also did the PCK pan hard brackets and would highly recommend that (the bracket) as well as the diff drop. It was maybe about 2 .5 inch total. Was real happy with it and the ride. Liked it better than my 99 talls and kYB's that were on it at from my first "lift" and it was supposed to handle the weight of the ARB and winch, but never installed those.(Due to total out)
My 2001 will prob get the same set up

Had SS1.2 Billy 5100's Tundra/LC 8 wrap on 96Red long time liked it.
Red's 01 replacement tried OME 3" lift, had to go.
Giving the Billy 6112 & 5160 setup a try 6k mi on it, seems to be a step up from 5100's.

Thank 3bears. I'm hoping to have a somewhat matched set of shocks. Since I'd like to try the replacement Tundras upfront... I guess my question is which rear shocks (be they stock anythings or aftermarket units) will best mimic the performance characteristics of a stock Tundra shock? While still having the correct length to accommodate the longer OME coils? I'm sure there's a reason I haven't yet about read anyone doing it this way.

I have no idea. I just went with what I felt best after lots of research

Hey all, I'm new to the world of 4x4 and and have zero experience when it comes to any of the products and upgrades needed. I've just got a nice 3rd gen 2000 limited 4runner with 176k miles and looking into upgrade the suspensions, this truck will primarily be used for overlanding/camping/ exploring rig and not much (if at all) rock crawling.
I'm looking to have 2-2.5" lift and keep good/comfort drivability both on and off road, so after reading an overwhelming amount of data regarding suspensions lift I came up with few options and would like to get your guys inputs and thoughts on the below setups.

I will put front bumper and winch, rock slider and under armor right away, and probably rear bumper and tire carrier some what in the future.

Which of the following setups might be the most comfort and reliable for my application?

Suspension kits:
1. Bilstein 6112/5160 - 883 coil in front and 890 at the rear.
2. TTBOSS-9602ALM - Toytec Aluma Series Boss Suspension System.
3. K53131 - ICON Stage 1 Suspension System + 890 coil at the rear.

UCA - does anyone of the below has any advantage over the other?
1. SPC.
2. Total chaos.

Do I need to get any of the following for my application?
1. Diff drop kit?
2. Adjustable panhard bar?
3. Longer sway bar links?
4. Longer brake line?

I will appreciate any and all thoughts/comments/suggestions regarding the above.

Suspension kits: These are all good choices - ICON is going to be the best of these

1. SPC. More adjustability than the Total Chaos LCA allows you to dial in the perfect alignment specs- Uses an OE style ball-joint that is easily replaceable - Uses OE style Bushings to the Frame instead of uniballs - I would go with these for a primary street driver -
2. Total chaos. Looks like these are a set Caster/Camber correction - Not adjustable at all. Uses 3 Uniballs which requires more maintenance/prone to squeaking/more likely to fail without extra attention - These would be more suited to a rig that is going to see a lot of trail use

Do I need to get any of the following for my application?
1. Diff drop kit? - Opinions vary -Some say it is mandatory over 2" of lift - Either way you will want to add CV BOOTS to your lift plan. They WILL leak after the lift - REBOOT when you lift, or replace entirely with a NAPA CV
2. Adjustable panhard bar? Better to get the EIMKEITH Panhard Correction Kit and have that welded on in addition to the Adjustable Panhard to dial the rear alignment. The adjustable Panhard alone with correct the centering of the axle, but the panhard bar should be as flat as possible for best suspension action. Mine was pretty wacky on bumpy turns with just the Adjustable Panhard Bar and 3" of lift. Not required if you only end up about 1.5" of lift. Anything higher get the EIMKEITH Panhard Correction Kit
3. Longer sway bar links? - Yes - I would recommend searching here and getting a set of custom links so you can dial the length.
4. Longer brake line? - Good Idea for the rear if you plan to wheel a lot. Simple mod to make sure you don't rip it off during a moment of hard articulation
5. Parking Brake Extension Bracket - You may need this as well.

The 6112's I bought came with 600# springs, set perch 3 & 4 2.5" lift. I have an AOR plate bumper 107#, winch 67#
Minus 01 fat lip 96# removed have only added 78# rides/handles real good. Will be going to notch 4 & 5 more than likely For less rake.

I paired the 5160's with OME 890's with modified cone gives 3.25-3.5" lift. 890's did handle 110# of free weights w/spare well. target weight for rear bumper build rode around with weights for 6 months. Trip loaded air bags maybe later.

On second set of SPC UCA's I like em.

#4 Longer Brakelines Rear for sure, even if you don't offroad.
Picture your Ride on a post lift for tire rotation rear at full droop will be trying to stretch brake line or lines.
PCK is definitely way to go over Adj panhard bar, OE bar centers body just fine.
If you have OE Locker you'll need to raise Swaybar axle mounts 1 1/4" so Swaybar won't make contact with locker motor, E-brake cable needs attention, have run Diff drop, all part of SS1.2 kit some parts I kept.
If you have an 01-02 you will definitely have to do recilibration procedures for Trac and Stability control or do Andy Mod 2.0.

These are all good choices - ICON is going to be the best of these
1. Bilstein 6112/5160 - 883 coil in front and 890 at the rear.
2. TTBOSS-9602ALM - Toytec Aluma Series Boss Suspension System.
3. K53131 - ICON Stage 1 Suspension System + 890 coil at the rear.
4. King Extended Travel remote Res. my other choice.

Something worth mentioning again; Bumpstops gona need attention.

Been running DuraBump brand by member Plasticsguy check em out.
3" Front, 5" Rear kit. 15k mi.
1st setup with OME 3" kit 4Runner spec'd, bolt on worked fine this setup.
Current setup, Tundra 6112/LC 5160 spec'd, Rear bump's need attention,
Fronts good for current setting, adjusting for settling soon we'll see.
