Help! 99 4x4 "engaged light" is on when not engaged!

Really weird, was driving home on the freeway just now and for the first time floored it on the freeway to see the passing speed power. A couple seconds later the transfer light and 4 wheels on the dash started blinking..Push button NOT engaged, and the damn light won't turn off. Tried driving straight and reversing, but it won't go off, even after turning off the car multiple times..WTF!?!?!

Hunter Green,

Read through this thread (I must warn you, it's a 7 page thread)... It may have some answers to your question. Many of the posters in the thread were experiencing an issue very similar to yours. I just bought a 2001, and I saved this thread in my favorites just in case I ever have problems with the push button 4wd system. Good luck.
