Are OME kits well regarded?

I know a lot of people run OME springs, but I see many of them pairing it with other brands of shocks. Just wondering if the full OME kit is good too, or if there's a reason people just buy the springs.

I'm in the early stages of planning my suspension upgrade. Mine is original, sagging, and rides like I have no suspension at all. Ok, maybe not quite that bad, but it is harsh.

I want a little bit of lift, but not too much. I would consider 3 inches too much.

I was looking at this kit. https://bilsteinlifts.com/shop/toyot...oyota-4runner/

I'm thinking 880's on the front and 906's on the rear. And I assume the soft valve shocks would be best for on road performance. I may off road some, but nothing too extreme.

Would that have me sitting a little bit higher than a stock '99 height? I have a 2002 Sport. And I assume with that combo I don't need to worry about dropping the diff or anything.

Final question, with that setup what size wheel/tire could I go up to without any rubbing issues? I'm thinking of keeping the stock wheels/tires for summer driving, and eventually getting a second set for winter that are a bit larger and/or wider. Put some knobby snow tires on them and only run them in the cold months, or if I'm doing some off road stuff.

OME are a good basic starter setup. They lift, they work and they handle weight. But even paired with soft shocks they ride really rough.

If you want a good riding suspension lift look into other options like Coil over Kits and LC or superflex coils for rear.

I think more people generally buy their springs and pair with a different shock, like the 5100.

I wish I gave the OEM shocks a chance when I first did mine. Personally I think they may have paired better than a 5100, but I dont know for sure.

Its hard not to consider they might be valved better to worked with their own springs.

But to answer your question, I think OME in general is pretty well regarded.

Only advise is pay attention to the springs rates... I originally bought mine (40% stiffer than stock) for some overland type road trips and it was an amazing drive when loaded up. Now that I spend more time in the desert cruising around (generally unloaded after making camp) I find my rear suspension is a bit stiff.

I am buying some ICON rear springs to swap them out but keeping my OME for a quick swap for when any more trips like that come around.

I have the OME 880/906 combo paired with Tundra Bilstein 5100 shocks. Much better than my 180k mile original suspension. A little firmer, but definitely not harsh. To each their own. I heard from around the forum the OME shocks ride rough which is the reason I went with Bilsteins.

This setup will result in 2 inches in the back and roughly an inch in the front depending on how worn your current suspension is. No need for extended brake lines or ripping CV boots with this combo. Currently running 265/70R tires but will move up to 265/75R tires when these wear out.

OME is a great set up for just getting into wheeling. Some of their stuff is good pairing for more hardcore wheeling too. It just depends on what you are looking for in a lift kit. Good all around 2" lift. The diff drop isn't a super difficult thing and highly recommended even with a 2" lift.

I have tried different suspension setups on my off-road vehicles. I currently use Kings, Fox and ARB OME suspension on several vehicles. I highly recommend ARB OME Suspension for regular trail use. It will handle anything. It rides way better then most of the setups i have seen.

I wish ARB would release the OME BP51 for our rigs but I'm guessing that will never happen. They still don't have it for 4th gens either.

My 03 v8 rides empty 90% of time.

I put v8 recommended coils and struts up front (885?) and the softer rears (895e?)

My stock setup before the swap was 16 years old so anything would have been a serious upgrade. That said. I received a nice height adjustment as well as a very sturdy solid ride. I do not find that it is a rough ride but I like it feeling like a Tacoma.

Also.

I went ahead and added the did drop because it is cheap and takes an extra 5 minutes to install.

The height is level too from hood to tail. Looks very nice.

I would love to try the BP51 on our 4th Gens... I think its one of the best options right now in suspension.

Are OME kits well regarded?

Ive been really happy with my OME OME 881/890 with 60073 rear shocks (soft). It handles well and is not rough at all! I was into this kit for about $1000 once I did LBJ and a few other things.

Go with the 890's for the rear. 906 will give you negative rake. For tires you can go up one series from stock assuming you have 265-70-16.

My next choice was nearly double the price and after a few thousand miles on the OME kit I'm glad I went with OME. This kit is far from entry level.
I have a 2000, I ended up getting 3" in the front and 4" in the back but I was really sagged out. I am running my stock size BFG's till they are bald (prob another 5000 miles) and then going with 265-75-16's
After

Loaded with about 100 of weight.

People that think ome coils are not stiff or rough have not been in a new toyota with good suspension or rode in an icon/king/fox coil over setup. It's literally night and day difference.

They say it rides like a truck. My 2012 truck is smooth. OME makes it ride like a truck from the 60s.

I have the same setup up as Ridefast..
I don't consider the OME kit to be entrylevel.. they don't have the bro-tastic-ness of remote reservoirs but they're just as capable off road.

I'm currently sitting on 265/70's. My next set of tire will be 256/75 or 235/85, I haven't decided yet.
