New to the forum, but I've been around for awhile. Thought I would share my truck's progress. Purchased in 2006 with 40K miles, completely stock. Then after a year of driving it like that, I started getting the itch to start modifying it.

First I got some 32" Firestone Destination MT tires, and a 4Crawler 1.5" bodylift.

Then in 2008, I added some customized 4xInnovations sliders. I added the diamond plate between the bars so they could also be used as steps.

That winter, I decided to make a storage drawer system in the cargo area. The idea was to keep it low profile enough to still be able to fit the dog cage in.

Then in the spring of 2009, I got some new wheels. They are Eagle Alloy series 1378. I painted the rings a dark bronze color (along with all of my emblems). As you can tell, I really like the black and bronze color theme.

That spring, I also got my first lift. It was Daystar 2.5" spacers in the front with OME 890's in the rear.

Later that year, I decided to modify my grille. I cut out all the ribs and fastened in some perforated metal that matched what was in the hood scoop.

On to 2010. I decided I wanted to learn to weld. So how better to learn, than by building a custom front bumper.

And with lights and D-rings:

The last thing I completed was replacing my old lift with the SS 1.2 suspension lift. I also installed SpiderTrax 1.25" wide wheel spacers on all corners.

Currently, I am working on a custom front skidplate to compliment the front bumper. It should be completed later this year. Then next spring I will be getting 35" Mickey Thompson MTZ tires. I also plan on starting to build a rear bumper soon too.

Thanks for looking.

Nice work Bandit Runner. That bumper looks pretty dang nice for having just learned to weld. I've been thinking of learning as well to try and save some cash in the process of building up my 4-Runner. Did you just go out in the garage and experiment? Take a class maybe? The local community college here offers free vocational classes... one of which is welding.

Either way, great job on the bumper build, and I like what you did with the sliders and the grille too. Not saying I'm gonna cop your style, but your build definitely gives me some ideas.

Thanks guys!

Big Fish: For the welding, I just did a lot of reading and research on the internet and the library. Then bought the welder I wanted (Hobart Handler 140) and started practicing. Also, my neighbor is a welder, and gave me some pointers. It was pretty easy, so I started on the bumper. The rest is history.

Buying a welder and steel for a bumper is cheaper than buying a new bumper. More satisfying too.

Great looking bumper! You got skills that's for sure. I think your truck looks perfect with the 32's. Nothing against your 35 plans though...

Thanks, will do. I'll probably start working on the rear bumper around Christmas time. The design is almost complete.

Bandit,

Thanks for the reply on the welder. I looked up the one you purchased, it seems like a nice tool and gets tons of good reviews. After having read through your build thread on the bumper it seems like the real investment isn't the $500 for the welder, but the TIME. Dang man, you put in some work on that bumper.

The other thing I got to thinking about is how you cut all the sheet metal. I was thinking maybe your neighbor had a plasma cutter (being that he's a welder). You mentioned the water jet in your build thread and it all made sense.

You did a 100% bad azz ninja newbie welder job on that front bumper, and you had me hovering over the "submit order" button on that welder, but I'm not sure I've got the time to commit that you put in on that thing.

Thanks for the posting the build thread, that gives people a much better idea of the commitment and work it takes to achieve your results.
