Desert 4Runner Ideas

I don't really go offroading in the woods or mud (it is a 2WD haha), so I mainly stick to the desert. So my question is what kind of suspension/shock setup should I possibly go with? I see OME and Bilstein getting thrown a lot on this site...

Any ideas (suspension and etc...) on making my 4Runner a desert runner would be awesome.

I was going to say there are three guys on that site and give him the same link. Just like anyhting really built to handle the desert be prepared for high dollar investment and then normal maintenance.

Thanks Pikeman.

I'm not going to go crazy (until I get more cash) and get an engine cage and link up the rear. Just looking for more of an improvement vs. stock in the desert.

At least it's a start!

If I'm going up to a 285 tire, do I need to re gear the rear end?

Well after running the 285's for 35k now I would say it would be better to re-gear. I have not as of yet since I have two axles so just not in the budget. You will notice a little drop in mileage and on long hills your transmission will "hunt" for gears. If you are wanting to run Desert I would suggest the 255/85 tires. I know a lot of the Pre-Runner builds run the skinny 33x10.50 tires which would be closer to the 255.
