WTB: 2002 T4R SR5 Sport Edition
I have been searching and searching online and at local dealerships for my first T4R and have had no luck in finding what I want!
So I thought I would take a chance and post what I am looking for in the forum and see what happens. Here's my criteria....
2002 4Runner SR5 Sport Edition
REALLY want 4wd, but I'm finding this to be very difficult
REALLY want a black one, but I will settle for other colors
Less than 150,000 original miles
Located as close to Atlanta, Ga as possible
If you have one, know of one, or just have that much time on your hands to search and haven't looked to see what's out there lately please let me know. I fear I am getting closer and closer to settling for less
Personal Email is faster but not necessary

Don't settle. You're looking for almost exactly what I was looking for. My criteria was an '01/'02 Sport 4wd in black, silver or green. No leather. Under 75k miles. It took MONTHS of searching and I almost settled many times. I didn't and I eventually found what I was looking for. Couldn't be happier.
I'll keep my eyes peeled here. Would you be willing to fly here to get one? I could check it out in person if I were to find one...

Thanks for the encouragement! I need it right now because I'm currently out of a personal vehicle until I buy one

Appreciate the offer but I think the west coast is a bit too far when my spending limit is $10,000. That would be one heck of a drive back or expensive delivery!

Too bad you didn't post this 2 weeks ago. My friend just sold his 2001 black sport 4x4 with 97k miles for 10,000. I will also keep an eye out for you, is there any colors you don't want?

I'm not a big fan of the ever so popular silver. But in the 2002 sport edition I would settle for any color below if good mileage + good condition + good price....
In order I would like...
1. Black
2. "thunder cloud"
3. Red
NOT a fan of blue

Don't scoff at far away sales. The cost of a plane ticket and some gas is easily made up for on a good deal elsewhere. I wish I had considered this when I bought mine. Even better if you have someone on here willing to test drive for you. Just be careful of the north, if they use salt on the roads, you will have rust problems. I don't know about WA, but the rest of the north has salt for sure.

I 2nd that. I ended up finding mine in NorCal. Cost $100 for a plane ticket and was a great first drive back to Seattle!

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the only differences between the SR5 and the Sport Ed are the hood scoop, color keyed bumpers and door badge (I don't think the sunroof is standard on the sport edition). The limited models have all those except the hood scoop (which is non-functional anyway). I wouldn't limit myself to an SE unless those options are that important. If they are, then I'm with Hepar, don't settle. I also wouldn't limit myself to "near Atlanta." If you find a 4x4 with low mileage in good condition, I promise you, these trucks are worth a drive halfway across the country.

Why on earth are you considering selling such a wonderful piece of work?! I just looked over your mod page, WOW! I would feel bad even making an offer cause yours is definitely out of my price range! BUT seeing yours has reinforced the motivation I had to find the right one and start mods!

I'm not totally against a little bit of travel, but WA is a bit too far for me since I'm in Ga. Don't have the time or wanting to put the miles on a new purchase to drive cross country.

Here's what top4runners.com has for the sport edition...
" What was called the "4Runner Highlander" in 1999 & 2000 and the "Sport package" in 2001 is now called the "Sport Edition 4Runner". The package is enhanced with perforated aluminum front skidplate, new interior sport fabric, Sport Edition badges, and embroidered floor mats. This Sport Edition is now available only in Thunder Cloud, Black, Sunfire Red and Stellar Blue Pearl color schemes"
I know the upgrades for the sport edition are just cosmetic, but I really like the look of this trim level, and i'm the type of person that will only be happy driving away with a vehicle if it's just what I want without having to do mods to get it to a point that is available from the factory

2001, but it's black with sport package and 4WD. 140K miles and located in Kansas:
Toyota : 4Runner: eBay Motors
Asking price is within your budget but seems a bit high -- hopefully you could talk them down.
Like others have said, I wouldn't shy too much away from a long-distance deal if you have the time to drive it back. I bought an old BMW from a guy in NYC a few years ago, took three vacation days from work and drove it back to Dallas -- had a blast along the way. Just have someone reputable check it out first locally, obviously. I joined AAA just as an extra safety/convenience measure -- ended up not needing it but I enjoyed the trip a lot more knowing I had that safety net if something went awry.
Good luck! I'm looking for something similar (4WD not essential though).

Very true. Back in 2008, after about 2 months, I found what I was looking for in Denver. Road trip up there with my pop. Drove back down after the weekend.
My criteria was super strict:
stock
2002 only
sport edition
non leather
<75k miles
thundercloud silver
4wd
at or less than the $13.5k I was selling my Tacoma for.
Keep searching, you will find it!

I know the feeling. I jumped on one that was what I thought I wanted. 01 SR5 but I am finding that I just can't be happy with it and am still looking for the one for me. I really want the color matched bumpers and hood scoop. Other than than, interior trim, leather etc. I have been restraining myself from doing mods that I can not move onto a new T4R. Only reason I jumped on it was it had 79K. I should post it up sometime, it is white with silver flares and really dislike the two tone color. It really seems to date the vehicle. Other than that it is in excellent condition and would be hard to find one in the same condition.
