Thieves....
I tell ya, I try to be a decent person, just Sunday night I helped two women who ran out of gas at 11:30pm, ran home, got my 4 gallons of gas for my kids go cart and helped them out....I work from home, so I rarely drive the 4runner....I think this is the second time this week, actually since Saturday....I try to live a good life, I go to Church, I help people out all the time....I attend every one of my little boys soccer practices with him and all his games, along with my little girls tball practice and all her games....I try to be a valuable contributor to society......
I had a doctors appt today, just a regular checkup, I'm at the doctors office for maybe 40 minutes, I come out to the security guards gathered around the back of my 4runner, so I walk up and they ask if its mine, I said yes, what's wrong, thinking someone backed into it....well, apparently a couple of punks crawled underneath it and in less than two minutes hacked off my catalytic converter and my second O2 sensor.....I tell ya though, there were two witnesses that got a description of the two crackheads, their car and even the tag number....now we'll see if Tulsa's finest do anything about it.....
by the way, if anyone can run a oklahoma tag number, please let me know....
Thanks for letting me vent....I feel better now....
-Ian

Sorry to hear that man. Hopefully insurance will cover it or they will catch the guys who did it and have them pay the damages.

I hate hearing things like this.
4Runners are the perfect target; decent sized cat, plenty of ground clearence...and these things are worth a ton compared to most cars...
If they got a description and a tag number, they're caught...hopefully insurance will cover the theft and you can keep the money you get from the dirtbags.

Yeah, I am not really too upset about it, I mean, I am, but the good spirit in me is trying really hard not to get too upset about it....I think its working....
Found this link on the local news, I knew I'd seen it before....
Catalytic Converter Theft On The Rise In Tulsa - NewsOn6.com - Tulsa, OK - News, Weather, Video and Sports - KOTV.com |
You know, I was sitting out on the driveway just about 45 minutes ago, reading my haynes manual about what all is missing and I watched as an ambulance drove by with its lights going....it slowed down and stopped about 3 houses down from mine....the paramedics got out with the stretcher on wheels and walked into the house and brought out the resident that lives there....taking them away to the hospital.....the whole time I'm thinking wow, I really hope they are alright as they've only lived in the neighborhood about 2 weeks....so, that helps me put things into perspective......I think that's God's way of saying there are other people out there far worse off than you (meaning me....).....
So, I figure if the cops catch the crooks, that's cool, if they don't, that's alright too....I've still got my health and my family.....and that's all that really matters....
Thanks for the comments....
Take care,
-Ian

Cat Converter theft has been a sporadic problem around here for a couple years.
The platinum inside is worth some bucks.
A while back I read in the news about an apartment complex that got hit and like 15 SUV's had their cats stolen in one night.
As to your situation Ian, just remember - karma has a way of catching up with scum like this. Sooner or later they'll get caught in the act ripping off the wrong dude. ;-)

I wonder if these really work? Kinda like the club steering wheel lock, a thief can get through it but taking more time makes them go elsewhere.

This has got me concerned as well. I live in a fairly nice area of St. Louis but there has been several break ins close by. My neighbors house even got broke into last month and there has been several catalytic converters stolen closer to the city lately.
Damn thieves.

Just glue a bunch of razors to the underside of your car. They won't want to go under it then.

Sorry to hear that. That F'in sucks.
I work at Ford dealer and I take the cat coverters to a scrap yard after the warranty claim is paid. The prices change everyday. Last time I went was about a month ago. The small ones were bringing about 15.00 each and some of the bigger ones (off a F350 V10) were bringing about 40.00 each.
Not worth a lot but enough for a thief to get there fix.
KBALL posted that "catclamp" link. If you look at the pictures on the bottom of "How it works" , the middle picture looks like its on a 4runner..

LOL! I never really thought about it, buy my BudBuilt belly pan serves another purpose other than getting bashed by rocks, it would be a serious pain in the arse to try to cut my cat off with that on! Might be a good idea for you if you wheel your truck anyways.
