roof rack

Hey everyone. For the past few months i've been on a constant search for "the" 4runner. I haven't seen anything good in my area lately until just a few minutes ago. I found a 2001 sr5 with 133k. Anyways on to the topic. This 4runner doesn't have a roof rack, which is something i would like to have because i plan on buying a snowboard rack for it. I was wondering if the 4runners that come stock without roof racks still have the stock mounting areas that a 4runner with a roof rack would have. I know on my parents cars there are little panels that pop off and you mount the rack in a stock location, but they drive Hondas... anyways so can i find a stock roof rack and mount it to this 4runner if i was to purchase it? Is it hard to find a stock roof rack? would it be expensive?

Not sure if yours has the mounts or not. To answer your other question you can buy a used one from a scrap yard in the $70 range

dunno look at the roof and you tell me, if there is a panel or plug for holes or what, i thought all 4runners came with at least the rails for the roof rack but i could be wrong, i'm not a trim level/ factory options expert. it seems the easiest way for you to figure this out is to just look at the truck in question and see what you'd have to do to mount a roof rack, as far as i know there is no panel to pull off maybe some plugs of some sort or the rails at least.
sorry couldn't help more.

If you buy that 4runner and are just going to toss the rail strips when you get a rack I'd be happy to take them from you. I don't know if they'll cover my end clips so I couldn't justify buying them from Toyota.
Damn...I just tossed mine a couple weeks ago when I was cleaning out the garage. Sorry man. I would've sent them to you if I knew someone could use them.

Smile

Yes the mounting holes are exactly the same. My runner came without a roof rack and I bought one for 30 bucks and it bolted on perfectly.

Mine also came without the factory roof rack, just the plastic rail strips. The factory roof rack I installed was a direct fit to the same holes.

Bootown - I believe I still have my rail strips. If you want, let me know and I'll try to dig them up. I would just ask that you cover shipping.
