Hey RAV,

I got your PM-- Here are the instructions for programming the 99-02 4Runner Keyless Entry factory remotes:

1. Start with the following conditions: you are in the vehicle

a. Key is out of the ignition
b. Drive door is open ( all other doors are closed)
c. Driver door is unlocked (other door locks don't matter)

2. Insert the key into the ignition (don't turn it) and pull it out.

3. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:

a. Cycle the power locks 5 times. Use an even pace and try
to go relatively fast.

b. Close, then open the drivers door.

4. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:

a. Cycle the power locks 5 times (same as before).
b. Turn the ignition to ON then back to OFF.
c. Turn the ignition to ON then back to OFF.
d. Remove the key from the ignition.

5. Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should cycle (automatically)
indicating successful entry into programming mode. Return to step 1
if the locks do not cycle at this point.

6. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:

a. Press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter
simultaneously for 1 second.

b. Immediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons,
press the lock button by itself and hold for 2 seconds.
Within 3 seconds, the door locks should cycle ( LOCK then
UNLOCK) once-- indicating successful programming. If
the door locks don't cycle, or cycle twice. Repeat steps
6a and 6b--this remote has not been accepted.

c. Repeat steps 6a and 6b for EACH transmitter that will
operate the vehicle. Including any old transmitters.

7. Close the driver door.

Hope this helps you, it did me greatly-- Good luck,

NoliWan

very helpful
I got through all the steps multiple times
but when I get to 6B - it cycles twice;
i close the door, and the remote doesn't work.

i thought maybe battery..on teh remote, etc..
seems to be ok. Wondering where I'm going wrong?

I have a 2001 t4r; remote FCC ID is: 1512Y

looks identical to the one I lost..but is this not the
right remote?

thanks guys!

That's the same remote I have for my '02 Sport.
If you're doing the steps correctly, maybe there's something defective with that remote.

it cycles twice indicating that it didn't take...
any hints? I did the steps several times; I think
I am doing it correctly..

any suggestions?
seems like the right remote - just unable to
pogram correctly?
could it need a new battery?
seems to respond to the system - ..so
didn't think that could be the issue.

I think the remote you need depends on whether or not you have the alarm. The 1512Y did not work on my 02 Sport w/o an alarm. I needed FCC ID# HYQ12BAN. Hope this helps.

This is amazing. I thought my remote was dead, turns out it had just lost it's programming from the dead battery. I followed this and had it fixed in 15 seconds.

Yet another reason I'm glad I got rid of my Jeep. Thanks for the help NoliWan.

a. Cycle the power locks 5 times.

Does this mean lock/unlock 5 times? I am really unsure.

Here is some history:

Actually, I didnt buy a new remote. Mine stopped working.

I have an 02 T4R. Last week I noticed the *chirp* sound wasnt working any more.
Over the weekend... the Keyless Remote stopped working totally.
So I radio shacked a new battery in the remote... but it still does not work.

I tried these reprogramming instructions, but they do not work either.
"Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should cycle (automatically)"
This doesnt happen. So I am wondering if I am doing the cycle correctly ...

Any Advice would be appreciated.

Anyone have ANY ideas ?

I have tried this possibly 30 times and it has never worked.

Could it possibly be something else wrong ? like a fuse or something?

ANY Ideas ?

Programming w/ an alarm

I have an alarm on my car that the dealer add. It turns on when the driver door is locked.

I can't do the steps with out setting off the car alarm, specifically the close and open the drivers door step. Has anyone seen this problem and have a work around?

Yes, this does mean lock then immediately unlock five times. So it will be locked 5 times and unlocked five times. If you were doing this and the vehicle wasnt doing the automatic cycle thing, then there must be a problem with the computer and not the remote.

After you do the lock/unlock cycle thing, the doors should all be unlocked, so your alarm shouldnt be going off. Does your alarm always activate when the unlocked doors are closed?
