1996 4runner RPM gauge needle going crazy

Hey guys I have a 1996 4runner and the gauge needle is going crazy.

I recently (about a week ago) installed LED's in my gauges and had no problems but all of the sudden today the RPM gauge is messed up.

Basically the needle goes crazy when I drive. For example, if I press on the gas pedal the RPM needle actually goes down to zero. Then when I let off the gas it goes back up to 2 and it will wobble back and forth occasionally.

The truck runs fine and I don't notice it actually effecting my driving which is good.

I'm wondering if I didn't plug the RPM gauge back in all the way or something happened when I put the LED's in.... Or could it just be coincidence?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

In my field of work(RADAR Repair and Maintenace) the failed part is rarely a coincidence as you meantioned... I would look at the connections first, then go from there.

Ok I will take apart the dash and make sure the cable harness is plugged in securely. While I have the dash apart is that all I should check?
