Exclamation 99' brake problem

I got a 99' and i just started to have problems with my brakes. i use my parking brake when parked, and by doing so the brake get "stuck" and i have no brakes for a little while (till i mash down the peddle a little) just wondering if anyone has this problem or knows how to fix it.

this is what happens.

I start the truck, push down on the brake peddle, take the parking brake off, while my foot is in on the brakes i put it into drive or reverse and then start driving. once i need to make the 1st stop, my brake peddle is stiff as all hell and i must force the brake peddle down till i have normal pressure.

any help/tips will help.

Thanks in advance

you need to adjust the rear drums from the sounds of it otherwise i'd start looking at the brake booster, i don't fully understand the condition at which this happening, but it really does sounds like a simple rear drum brakes adjustment.

to me it sounds as if when you put the hand brake on it applies and won;t release fully until you operate the rear brakes past the point of where the hand brakes lock the drums and release that tension going on there, this most likely sounds like drivel but i know what i'm saying, lol
over adjusted rear brake drums, hehe

give that a shot it's pretty simple to check and do.

If the above suggestion doesnt work, you may want to check the parking break mechanism called the "bell-crank" located behind the rear brake drum cover exposed to the under belly of the car at each rear tire.

I had to change mine over the last winter as they became rusted, corroded and seized up. This kept the parking brake engaged whether or not you wanted it to be once you engaged it, it would not release. It is a little tricky to replace, but can be done as a day project. I got my new bell cranks from Yoda Jims Junkyard in colorado. google the junkyard you can get tons of awesome used parts I think i paid 30 for them both.
