1997 t4r check engine light

Hello to all, Im new here I just picked up a 1997 sr5 with 173,000 on it. The check engine light is on and I want to get it checked out but dont know how. There is no plug under the dash to plug a scan tool into, what do I do in this case?

There has to be an OBDII plug up under the dash. It'll be above your gas pedal sometimes tricky to find.

Yeah there is a plug under the hood. Is that where you plug the scan tool in?

I believe that the OBDII is under the hood on top / side of the intake.

There's a port under the hood and one that's to the right of the gas pedal.

The one under the hood can be used by some specialized equipment. Not all that sure what it can read.

The one under the dash is OBDII compliant/standardized.
