I personally am tired of pasting this into a new thread every morning. Sticky this little golden nugget of 4Runner information.

Sticky please...
Agreed. I've seen this pop up more than a few times in the past couple weeks and can't believe it's not a sticky yet.
Bump.

Awesome Guide!
Came across this after asking the typical "Newbie" question of what to look for in buying a 3rd Gen 4Runner...
Ready to wheel and deal on the sweet '02 Sport Edition that I found today!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

It is listed in the Sticky thread: Tutorial and Documentation Reference, although I agree it deserves to be there on its own.

Haha, that's when I got home from being out, didn't realize there was a time limit for posting a bumb/showing support. I'll try to control myself next time.

No problem! I just thought it was a pretty small bump, not even a nudge--more like a caress or a tickle...

The Tutorial & Doc Reference has a lot of threads that aren't stickies.

Thank you for this guide. I'm surprised no one has made a 4th gen buyers guide yet.

I wish a mod would just explain a reason, maybe it is just something I need to fix..

Thank you Ripcord
This is an awesome thread. I have been spending a couple of months looking for the right 3rd gen. This will help so incredibly much.
One thing I think you should add (I do not remember seeing anything) on potential problems is MAF and O2 sensor problems (because I found it on quite a few 3rd gens, and there are many threads on the subject).
I know they are not really that big a problem to fix, but could be very helpful to people who may not know about it. One tip, as everyone should know to do anyway, is take a test drive for at least 15 min, if not longer. It can take that long (in my experience) for the CEL to come on. I have had it happen (CEL come on) in a '97, '99, and an '01 during test drives.
Thanks Ripcord
