Sorry for the rant, but...
This post is not informative at all, but I just need to let off some steam. I just got screwed out of getting my 3rd gen. I found the 3rd gen I have been looking for, 99, 3.4, 5 speed, 4wd, 97k, original owner, dealer maintained and for only $6800. Been in contact with the guy all day and arranged to meet him tomorrow at 8 am. Told him I'm ready to buy and confirmed I was the 1st person to see the 4runner.
The guy gives me a call at 10:15 tonight to let me know he sold it. He let some other guy come by tonight and the guy bought it within ten minutes of seeing it. Screwed me over big time. Ugh whatever happen to sticking with your word? Now I'm too pissed to sleep and put a damper on the weekend. End of rant.

Hope the proud new owner doesn't start bragging about his good fortune on here on the next couple of days.
You will find a better deal.

that dude is pretty douchey if you ask me.
believe in fate?
it just wasnt meant to be. or something better might be coming along.
just be calm and patient and dont rush into a runner cause your tired of the horrible people that are in this world. take your time and a beauty will arrive.

Wasn't meant to be. Took me months to find mine and it was right under my nose the whole time. I ended up buying it from Scotty. You'll find it...

If you've ever tried selling a car privately, and had your time wasted repeatedly by flakey buyers who don't show up when they say they will without calling, or put in an offer on the car to never be heard from again, and generally waste your time, then you'd be able to see things from the other side as well. Selling a car is not a hobby, cash in hand is what you're looking for. It takes a lot of time to have a car clean inside and out and ready to show a prospective buyer, and people have no respect for your time.
It sucks that you had made arrangements to view it and it sold before you got over there, but unless you had a deposit on it, the car was still actively for sale. Lesson learned. Hope you find the one you're looking for.

Yeah I understand what you mean, but this guy just screwed me over no two ways about it. I was the first person to email him and responded right away to his responses. I told the guy I want to be the first person to see the 4runner, cash in hand. I told him I could have came up that night, but he insisted on the morning. I did everything I could to see the car first and he gave it away. I know people need to sell their vehicles, but that was shady. Alright I'm done now. Need to move on.

That stinks. 2 parties were late for their appts to see mine, one fine Sunday morning. I was NOT and they were left waiting while I test drove it and BOUGHT it for $6K. You win some, you lose some. SO many Runners in Cali, just keep checking all the different Craigslists. I picked up another Craigslist score last night, a brand new in box Catalytic Converter Theft Prevention Lock for $100! Add that to the brand new 5,000 lbs. drawtite hitch I got for $60!

Keep in there, man...you'll find "the one"...don't settle- 'cause if you do you end up like me, doing a PITA e-locker swap in an 01

That stinks. We were so close to having you in the 3rd gen family! Just be patient. There's one out there with your name all over it.

You have been more than patient. I can tell you will be rewarded. Sometimes its is not obvious until you attained your goal. You're doing all the right things and your trust is being tested.
As Big John mentioned, that was not the one for you. Ever been delayed only to see that delay may have kept you out of harms way.
It will come, keep the faith, brother.
Have a good weekend, you deserve it.

Be patient my friend, you'll find a better one! Give it some more time, the right truck will pop up, at a better price.
