Money to spend at Toyota Dealership

So I have a $1800 to spend on service at a Toyota dealership. I have a 2000 4runner with 171,000 miles on it. I am looking for ideas on what I could do to make the most of this $1800.

If you had $1800 that you had to spend at a Toyota dealership, on your 4runner, what would you have done?

Has your timing belt and water pump been replaced? It should have a sticker on your motor saying at what mileage it was replaced.

I may get them to flush the coolant and transmission but other than that I'd spend a good bit at the parts counter buying a box of oil filters, a few air filters, rear diff breather extension parts, a tune up kit,

I really don't know if I would spend that much....I'd save as much as I could to buy a new front bumper and sliders after I made sure the aforementioned maintenance was completed.

I just purchased a 4Runner as well and dropped some money on services at Toyota. I didn’t know what was done prior to me owning the vehicle so I didn’t take any chances and dropped the $$.
I would do:
  • Timing Belt
  • Water pump
  • 4x4 Service
  • Oil change
  • spark plugs

$1800 will more than cover the above services. I would also look at the suspension and brakes.

x2

Though if it's your first time working on a 4runner, it will take a bit longer than that. Oil filter can be a PITA if it's stuck on and you don't have a filter wrench.

Once you do it though, everytime afterwards will be a breeze, and save you even more time and money.

I'd say the only real maintenance you can't pull off yourself with a bit of work and patience is the water pump and timing belt. Though some might argue that point.

Don't forget to either bypass the tranny cooler with an aftermarket one, or replace the radiator. Pink milkshake will ruin any tranny regardless of how well you take care of it.

Disregard the milkshake problem if you're running a 5spd

Will the dealer do the Tundra Brake upgrade? You might have to go elsewhere for that mod, let them do the regular maitenance interval services for everything else and save your credit for big money items.

I bought my '98 from a lady who brought the Runner to tge dealer for everything including wiper replacement - which was great fir me but I would go elswhere for smaller repairs/maitanance since it will save you some money.

It all depends on what's been done already. TB and water pump are absolutely a good idea unless they were just done. What are the tires like? I would be thinking about new tires if you are close to having to change them.
