Surprised at mpg with deckplate mod

Don't post on here but like to check things out and get some tips and pointers sometimes. Recently did the deckplate mod. Still using OEM air filter. I would usually get 250-260 on a tank of gas if I let it get low enough to have to fill it up. (usually 15 gallons).

Drove the usual places I always go...and I got 306 miles on 15.2 gallons of gas. Filled it up where I always do. And I almost always use the same pump.

Anyhow. I know it shouldn't be that much better but I'm definitely not complaining. I do a mix of 40% city and 60% highway/freeway.

Just wanted to say thanks for the post on how to do it and I also did the fuel filter a few months ago, differential/transmission drain and fill. It's great having a helpful website like this.

I noticed the same thing after I did my deckplate and again after I did the ISR. I didn't take any numbers down, but I would be interested to see gains from each separately..

I always wondered if the deckplate and isr, or the two combined, would give any mpg gains... good info. I want to do both but the LAST thing I wanna do is lose mpg's haha

Good timing

I was just gonna post a thread about this when I got home from work today. I have a 97 sr5 and recently did the deckplate mod and noticed 1.5 miles to the gallon better.

It's not super difficult but the fuel system is prrssurized so you might have to do some research into it. My mechanic does it for 40 bucks the filter costs 20 so to me one of those things I don't mind spending some money on. Your call though

Just saying, watch out when trying to figure out mpg improvements of mods around springtime. When the pumps change from winter to summer gas, that can get you 1 or 2 mpg by itself. (The opposite in fall, you think what you did lost 2 mpg but it's just the gas blend changed.)

Though I see Viking97SR5 is in MN. I think winter's not over till July there .
