strange noise when slowing down/braking

hey guys. as some of you might know, i recently picked up my 4runner a few weeks ago and absolutely love it so far. it runs and drives great but i have noticed something that i find pretty strange. i have searched the forum, but have come up with no threads explaining my exact situation.

here is the issue:

intermittently upon braking or just slowing down, i hear a light airy/vacuum-like sound coming from around the steering column, and is always followed by a single click that comes from the front passenger side. there is no weird feeling/vibrating, etc. in the brakes. just the noise that i found to be strange.

im hoping someone would be able to give me any insight on what it could be. this is happening on my 02 4wd sport

Yes this is completely normal on the 01's and 02's, something to do with the ABS if I recall.

Found this by searching "2001 pumps noise"...

thank you thank you thank you palmetto! good news to know this is normal. I still find it odd that toyota would do this, but at least it's really only noticeable when the radio is off!
