Exclamation

so I am putting my build thread on hold because I just suffered a major setback.
Engine missing in CYL #3, coolant in chamber. Looks like either head gasket or head issues. I will find out more on Monday. It does look hopeful though, the engine never got hot and I only drove it 30 miles since it started missing.

I started a thread on my head issues. If you have any advice please drop me a line. Thanks

LINK >>> http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-ge...-now-what.html

When I last left off, my build thread had not caught up to present yet. I have a lot to post.

Well at present time I have 199k on 4Runner. Until this latest issue everything ran great no warning signs.

[CLOSED ISSUE, WILL BE ADDRESSED LATER IN THREAD ]

Detail work

Ok, so I am finally updating my build thread now that all my repairs are done.

I figured it was a good time to give the ol 4Runner a pre-summer waxing.

Fender flares

After detailing my 4Runner I realized just how bad the flares had faded. When I bought the truck the factory flares were a nice -dark grey- and they have since faded and begun to peel.

After searching the forums and talking with a local shop I decided to have them painted black. Here is the truck with the flares pulled. Luckily for me the truck still has excellent factory black, even though it is 14 years old.

New flares installed

Update: I got the fender flares back. It ended up costing me $550 total to repaint them. This included removal, painting, install and Toyota clips.

New headlights & corners

*************************
New Headlights
**************************

So I bought new headlight housings off of EBAY. The install was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

Lighting verdict:
* THESE LIGHTS LOOK GOOD BUT THE OUTPUT SUCKS!
* I RECOMMEND YOU JUST SWAP THE GLASS AND NOTHING ELSE!

I bought the headlights from EBAY for $77 and the corners were $30 each.
These are glass not plastic

1999-2002 TOYOTA 4RUNNER GLASS HEAD LIGHT LAMP RL NEW | eBay

* OLD GRILL AND LIGHTS

* I added some silicone sealant - just feeling extra cautious

thanks for all the comments!

Satoshi Grill Mod
**************************

I wanted to add this to my build thread. I already posted pictures in a separate thread as well.

Link to expanded pictures of my Satoshi Mod:
Satoshi Grill Mod Build Thread (pic heavy)

I decided to add the Satoshi Grill Mod to my truck a few months ago. I am pretty happy with the result.

This is not the same as a normal "grill mod" - the Satoshi mod is from a poster on YotaTech. In order to do the mod you need to insert a blacked out mesh grill and a Toyota FJ Cruiser "TOYOTA" logo.

Looks great. What did the verdict on your head / cylinder issue be? ( so busy working haven't had a chance to read all the posts)

Wow nice job on the 4runner. Those flares look awesome. I want to do that to mine, but it's a lot of cash. Are the stock flares dark grey or black on the black limiteds?

I believe they are all dark grey. Mine was stock and you can see the peeling gray in the comparison shots.

The cost of painting the fenders was higher than I originally intended but it took extra labor and clips to get them on "right"

Looks like you got a lot accomplished, and having those gray flares painted really brought back life to the truck in general, not to mention the headlights.

Looks great!
