No airbag light

Sorry if this has been answered but I tried google and searching the forums with no luck.

Our 99 Limited failed state inspection today - and the garage said is was because the airbag light would not come on when he put the key in. This is the first we've been notified of a problem, but the strange thing is is I don't ever remember an airbag light!

What are some of the things I need to check first before going to the dealer? Is there a fuse for this? Any connections or harnesses I can check? The only mods done are an after-market head unit and satellite radio. I really don't want to have to pay out the butt for a burned out bulb (which there are several of those in the dash also).

Thanks for the help.

The fuse is the ECU-B (Body ECU fuse). There is a whole chapter of the FSM on this:

SRS Warning Light Circuit Malfunction (Does not light up, when ignition switch is turned to ACC or ON)

This on-line 2002 looks identical to my paper '99 FSM, so it should work for you. The page references are live links; you should be able to click through.

I think the little light bulb went bad. I just had my ECT light go bad and i never use it. Pull the dash and switch the air bag light with the e-locker light. If it fixes it, then you just need to get some light bulbs.

If there was an actual problem with the air bag, it would blink notifying you of an issue.

Thanks for the info on this. I'm going to check this out first thing in the morning (I'm glad I held on to my DMM).

In case I need to get into the dash, are there any diagrams or exploded-view sheets out there?

Dash cluster is easy to get out. remove lower bolster panel ( 10mm bols), don't disconect the fuel or hood relase, just let it hang in the floor. remove 5 or so phillips screws around the trim. dash board is held with 4 phillips.

Well it wasn't complicated at all. Once I looked at the fuse panel it was obvious - there wasn't a fuse there. The 7.5 Amp fuse was actually in the 'unused' spot 2 spaces away. Moved the fused; now the airbag light is coming on as it should.

Thanks for all the good info.
