Misfiring on 3 cylinders
A friend of mine let her 99 4Runner V6 run out of gas and now it runs like garbage. The codes its throwing are for misfire on cylinders 1, 2, and 3. I changed out the fuel filter and put a bottle of lucas fuel treatment in the tank, but so far no improvement. I'm guessing it sucked some garbage out of the tank and fouled the plugs or clogged the injectors....what do you guys think?

I would check the plugs they maybe fouled out or injectors might have gone out. could have also messed up the fuel pump. Also check the fuel pressure regulator. Could be any # of things.

Your most likely right... You could try changing the plugs and running a bottle of seafoam through it. Might clear up some issues.

Seafoam doesn't help the injectors though right?

The fuel hose doesn't sit at the bottom of the tank so it prob didn't suck up any junk. When you run out of gas it sometimes fouls up the injectors, get them cleaned out at a shop or possibly be prepared to get new injectors.

She took it to a shop and had the injectors cleaned and turns out she had a shorted out spark plug wire too. If the pump or hose doesn't sit in the bottom of the tank, how does it cause these issues when you run it out of gas? Or was it just a coincidence?

ran it too lean, no fuel... but the plugs kept firing so they probably got too hot and one of them cracked... the plugs were probably needed to be replaced anyways along with the wires.

It does if you use it in the gas tank.
A friend had an injector that was not flowing. I dumped a bottle of Lucas fuel treatment in the tank and after a 70 mile drive on the highway the injector was fine. Lucas treatment, Mmmm, good stuff!

I don't think I knew you could put seafoam in your gas tank...learn something every day!
I did have her put a bottle of Lucas in, but it didn't help. I put a bottle in every other oil change these days myself...maybe it'll keep mine running good!

When the tank runs low, the first fill can stir up crud from the bottom that just sits there when there is more gas in the tank. Then the pump sucks it in.
