Cylinder 3 misfire!! HELP!!!

So awhile back i was on my way home and my rig started boggign down really bad, sounded like it was missing. The check engine light flashed at me twice so i pulled over and checked all the fluids, and everything but seen nothing out of place. Luckily my buddy has a code reader and it told us "engine misfire on cylinder 3". So i went today and got a coil pack thinking that would be it. I switched the coil packs out and fired her up and she did just fine. Then i decided to test drive it to make sure. On my way back home it did the same thing and the check engine light flashed twice. All tips, thoughts, and opinions are appreciated.

Thanks Dudes,
Cody

Have you checked the plugs? Injector? Had an intermittent misfire on a customers 4runner that turned out to be the ignitor. Theyre expensive new though so don't just guess!

New plugs and wires... i ran some fuel injector cleaner through it awhile back and i think it ginked it up. I was talking to a guy at the dealership and he made a good point. He sayd if that cleaner pushed all tht trash out then the smaller pieces that the fuel filter didnt catch could be clogging the injecter. iv read about every thread there is and im pretty sure its the injector.

What brand of plugs and wires did you put on your 4Runner?
If that is the case you should replace the fuel filter and then run more injector cleaner through it.

You need to have it scanned again. It might the same coil pack or another one. It is quite possible to get bad coil pack too.

Get it scanned and see what pops up.

there is a decent chance that this is really really bad news.

see my build thread or do a search for head gasket and you will see a recent thread on this same issue.

story:
I had constant miss in cyl#3, I started a thread over the weekend, got lots of advice from this forum. on the following monday took it to my trusted mechanic and he told me the following "A lot of the time when you have a lot of miles and it is specifically CYL#3 on a third gen, you have a cracked head". well in my case he was right I did have a cracked head, misery followed.

I hope that isnt the case for you

also,

I believe an easy test to see if you have a cracked head or damaged head gasket is to pull the spark plugs and look into each CYL. if you find one that has no carbon buildup or you see coolant, that is a clear sign of damaged head/gasket.

unfortunately even if you don't see one of those tells you might still have those issues.

New update--- I moved the coils around and switched spark plugs and it has been runnin fine. i drove it out the road and it done fine, waited a little bit and it started up just fine. The piston looks fine, it looks the same as all the others anyways... i thinks its the injector. iv just about ruled out everything else. so im going to get a fuel filter and injector asap. il keep everyone posted and let you all know the outcome

If it is the Injector, is that a hard part to change?

I don't understand. You changed the coil packs around and now it runs fine? It sounds like to me you had a loose connection to one of your coil packs. Why are you replacing the injector if it is running fine now?

it ran fine long enough to drive out the road and back, i got back and let it set for 20 min. and went back out and it fired right up and didnt miss. but about an hour later i went back out and tried it again and it was missing. iv read other post where people have the same problems. and they replace the injector with the misfire and it runs fine. next paycheck in going to get a new fuel filter and injector and try that out.

I highly recommend installing seal kits in ALL the injectors when changing one.. Another trick that helps the orings slide in smooth and seal properly is spraying them all down with brake cleaner right before you press them in. helps them slide in nice and easy and seals them up good.
