I have to respectfully disagree that they're are indeed worth the effort...sure I could have spent 6 hours drinking beer or something more productive than putting headers in, but the butt-dyno says I picked up some power. Anything is an improvement over the stock manifolds/y-pipe.

I would say that you should plan to do an exhaust and the deckplate mod to really make it worthwhile (I still need to fab up a catback).

you will be able to use those with a BL, it probably says no BL indicating that you dont need a BL to use them... im not sure of the routing of the specific headers you are looking at, but the stock manifold goes over the top of the tranny and between the back of the motor and under the/in front of the firewall, not a lot of room there, but you can get some headers in there, the BL just helps give you more room to work.

thanks for the info guys.
and the deckaplate would be pointless because I'm buying a k&n Cai.
But I'm doing headers to tips.
Doug thorley headers
Magnaflow catalatic converter and 14" mufler

What do you all think? Should I go with trd headers or will I see more improvment with the dougs

FYI - I have a Volant CAI that I'm taking out and going to a deckplate modded stock airbox. Those CAI's make way too much noise, makes the 4Runner sound like it's breaking the land speed record, but instead it's only going about 25mph.

Unless you like tons of intake noise, just do the deckplate mod, you'll thank me later.

I will keep that in mind Coinball. but I'm 18 so the noise is a plus to me.

were you running the power core filter? i have the same intake and this cuts down the nose a lot thank goodness! and i know were speaking headers here but on a side note ive heard the K&N intake on a tacoma with the same engine as ours, i too have the volant, IMO the volant sounds so much better and cleaner. safer and everything then the K&N plus its the same price

good luck on those headers to the OP it may be something i will do on the list
