I have the build sheet for the 97 puppy hauler but it's looking like I have a 4.30 gear (with the e-locker). Based on the sticker in the door jam.

If it's a Limited 4x4 with e-locker, chances are higher that it truly does have 4.30 gearing, but I would still look for a more physical/visual confirmation of that to be absolutely certain.

My general rule of thumb is
A02A 3.9
A03A 4.1
A04A 4.3
A05A 4.56

Of course If I am going to put another diff in I would do the spin test but as a rule of thumb I have never personally seen it wrong

Thanks. The 4.30 ratio in the limited may explain the difference in mpg between it and my 97 SR5.
