I've got an unlifted 2001 3rd gen for which I have bought 17 inch Tundra wheels (and the 231mm Tundra brake upgrade.) I've got lots of little kids, and this is my run-about that allows me to take as many of them with me as I can without taking the 3/4 ton van every time I go to the lumberyard, etc! So, no lift in it's future...but I can't stand the tiny 15 inch wheels and 225/75R15 tires ( 28.2 x 8.9!)
I've pored over Child of Bodom's pictures of his, which started out with 265/70R17 (31.5 x 10.50) tires before his first lift. It looked FANTASTIC, even then...but with no lift down the road I don't think I want to go quite that big on mine.
Here's his, with NO lift, and the 265/70R17 tires on 17 inch Tundra wheels:
And here's mine, so far...
I'm thinking that something more like a 265/65R17 (basically 30.5 x 10.5) would look appropriate, with just enough gap to the fenders to keep it from appearing to NEED a lift?
That size would also preserve a bit more performance and gas mileage...although I have no way to know how much it would be hurt with any of the sizes, never having done this before.
Any thoughts or pictures of your unlifted 2WD 4runners with oversize tires?
Thanks!!

If you did the 265/65/17, you'd essentially be running the same size that 4Runner's came with if they had 16" wheels from factory.
It's like running 265/70/16, so you're golden, and that would work.
Thanks for the compliments man, we all started somewhere :P I had little 15"s once upon a time, too.
Good luck man, let us know what you choose to do!
