Spare Tire Tool?

I bought my 96 limited used, and it did not come with the long rod used to drop the spare tire.

I can pick one up from a junkyard or somone parting out, but I'm planning on taking a trip this weekend, so I won't have it in time. I figured I would take a look at the spare and tools before my trip and realized I didn't have the long extension peice...

Is there any other way to drop the spare?

You might be able to reach under and twist it by hand... I did that once, but i have an aftermarket bumper, not sure if you can with the stock bumper. Where are you located? if ur in colorado i'd let you use mine.

I kinda tried to reach under there but with the tire in the way it makes it nearly impossible.

I'm in CA..thanks for the offer tho.

Looks like I'll have to borrow one and throw the tire in the rear until I can find one of those tools. I was hoping I could rig something temporary to drop it, but I guess that isn't gonna happen.

OMG, I totally just found my jack and tool kit because of this post! I thougth I was missing tool kit in mine. I even had the seats up at one point but didn't realize the "hidden" flap area there under the seat. I just bought this 4runner about a month ago and was looking for a used/spare jack kit.

I do have a question though, I also have a jack in the rear cargo compartment, does this belong in there? Do the 4 runners come with 2 jacks? The one under the seat is a bottle jack, the one in the rear is a sissor jack.

I love this site!

I ended up finding the tool at a local junkyard for $10.

My '99 came new with just the bottle jack under the seat (same tool lowers the tire and works the jack). Your scissors jack is (not much of) a bonus.

A long 3/8" extension for a ratchet works great. I was missing mine and the jack so I had to put something together. Junkyard wanted $47, Toyota wanted $75.

I am having the same problem with my 2007 4runner SR5. I bought 3/8 inch extension which is 10" long but that didn't go inside. Whats the length of extension that worked on yours?

I just took a look with my stock bar and a tape measure. 10" NO WAY. 12" is right on the cusp--might work but would probably not engage fully. Anything longer should be fine.

I use a 3/8" extension and ratchet. I think the extension is 16 or 18 inches long. Bought it at Autozone I think
