Rear Door Latch Help

Hey all,
I've recently had my rear latch stop working. I took it off of the door and it's rusted together so hard I can't take it apart. I've been keeping an eye on the pull a part but they only seem to have 2nd generation 4runners when I have a '97 limited. I was wondering if any one knows if I can use a 2nd gen. latch or if they have any other info that could help me out.

Thanks a bunch,
Steve

Also if anyone wanders across my thread that needs the same help as me take a look at this link, it shows you how to fix it yourself:

Rear latch busted . . . is it tough to replace?

I think you are referring to the striker assembly. The "latch" to me is the handle you pull. Anyway, it's only about $45 from an online dealer if you really can't find it. Can't help with 2nd gen compatibility.

If it is the striker that you're in need of I have one I'll sell you, I have the handle, too, it's less than 6 months old. PM me and clarfy which one you need.

Edit: I just read that other thread, I'll have to get back to you on whether or that part is still good on my truck or not.

Yea, The striker assembly is exactly what I need. In mine the rubber piece refuses to move. If it wasn't rusted shut I could get a better look at it, oh well. Thanks for the info.

I have the exact same problem. The lift gate latch assembly, specifically the striker is busted. The plastic coating around the actual hook of the striker is worn off and causes obstruction for the hook to "latch" inappropriately. WD40 of will not work for my case.
The new striker part is $45 online; however, how the hell do I swap the part? The striker is stud bolted to the lock assembly. Am I suppose to pry this apart?
