Roof rack question??

Hi all-
Im having trouble finding a solid answer so I thought I'd just post it here
My 4RNR is a 97- when i bought it, it only came w/ the roof rails that go parrellel to the truck. My question is, can I just buy a Yakima or Thule type crossbars w/ feet?? Is there any other pieces Im missing? Im including a pic for reference...
Im looking to transport snowboards or bikes (separate items I must also buy) for now-
Thanks for any help!!!

you can find a set of stock rails some where or buy some after market tracks.

I dont even have those plastic caps so I had no choice.

under those caps are holes already drilled so your a step ahead.

wreaking yards or ebay or even craigslist for those parts.

I got some rails that I will install eventually that are from Proline I think. then I had to buy teh feet that attatch to the rails and then get Thule towers with cross bars.

just depends which route you want to go.

happy shopping

What you have up there now are just roof rack 'deletes', strips that have the holes underneath where an OEM rack would bolt on. My SR5 came with these but I just found an OEM rack at a parts yard for $80.00. You just unbolt the deletes and bolt the rack rails on. Onto the rack rails go three bars plus two cross bars where you'd attach your cargo (box or basket or whatever).

I'm pretty certain Yakima makes a fit kit for the OEM rails (not the deletes) so you'd need to at least find some rails. Otherwise you can purchase a rack that goes into your gutters but that will sit forward on your roof and not in back which is the preferred position.

Here's how mine looks now with the OEM setup - sorry for the miniscule photo!

if you have the OEM rails that run parallel to your roof, you will need 4 Yakima landing pads in which the Yakima foot packs will bolt into. You will then need 48" load bars or wider depending on what you want to carry. I have 4 Yakima fork mount bike trays on my roof. I would not recommend using OEM crossbars as they tend to be weaker from the research I did. Go to the Yakima website and build a rack for your runner and it will give you all the part numbers. Then scour ebay and CL for the parts. Thule also makes the components, I just like Yakima better. good luck!

i have the rack that i just pulled off my rig. it is complete with all hardware. it has been on top of my runner for a decade so the paint isn't perfect but all the pieces are there and functional. I am up in the tacoma area, let me know if you are interested in it.
