It's right there in the title.

OP, sorry to hear about the break-in and stolen ride. I hope it gets found with minimal damage.

Damn shame what happened to their boat.
I was thinking the exact same thing, I'm kind of surprised the POS's would steal a car after breaking into someone's home, it's two different ball games. hopefully they weren't professional car thieves and they just joyrided it and parked it somewhere. Keep us updated.

You have a chip key on your limited so I think you are pretty good. My 97 has the factory alarm that shuts down the alarm.
My 97 Limited has the factory alarm with starter disable but it is pretty easy to bypass I think. All you have to do is insert the key and turn it twice to override the alarms on these 4Runners. I am not sure but I think that if someone hot-wired it then they could override the security the same way, correct?

I agree that a kill switch is a great option but what else? The problem I have with relays is that they seem too obvious. If I was a thief who wanted to part out a 4Runner then I would just push every button, lights ect until it started (assuming there is no alarm going off)

Self aligning laser sighted big ass guns. That's the plan anyways.

Thanks for the tip on releasing the emergency latch. We have always disable our garage openers and place locks in the tracks while away for any extend period of time. As the saying goes " an once of prevention".

I know those responsible will get what's coming to them. Getting this out to the Toyota community will help in bringing your 4Runner home.

Best Regards..........8sm
Thanks - and yes, the truck was one thing - once home, discovering they raided my watches and glasses was an additional kick in the nuts.

Ignition / fuel pump cut off - I gotta figure out how to wire them into my other rides.

IF it does get stolen, Lo-Jack is the best recovery method - police endorsed I believe.

That's what I am thinking. But the B&E throws me... Seems like more of a get-a-way vehicle than an afterthought - hard to figure out which was targeted.

I like the fuel pump idea better cause I'm not a huge fan of people being able to track my location.
That's the plan!

Our thoughts exactly. But my roommate and I live a low profile. We live in a cul-de-sac with a street placed attached garage - others in the neighborhood could have staked it out but I don't want to make assumptions. I do work on it in the garage / driveway... drive by and you'd see it.

Wildlife monitors are going up soon.

My old pickup had an alarm (Starter kill) and transponder (ignition and fuel pump kill). As a bonus, you had to turn the headlights ON to allow the starter to engage (another separate circuit.)
Any write ups?

Do you guys remember back in the day when Toyota had a factory option to where they give you this key chain that you need to wave under the steering wheel somewhere to get the car/truck to start? I worked at a Toyota dealership after i graduated high school (2000) and these things threw me off every time! i would totally get one if i knew where!
Yep, I love my vehicles and this one was just starting to grow on me.

I can't figure out which one was targeted - the ride or my junk. The 4Runner was worth more... even just the parts on it. But harder to sell inconspicuously...

I'll be placing the kill relay somewhere they can't see it. And not in the obvious spot - under the seat. I have to find somewhere incognito and not tell anyone.

I can't think that they broke in for some sunglasses, and I am guessing these weren't rolex's or anything. Did they get into your house proper, or just the garage?

I have to think they have cased you if they got you while on a short trip, and you have a roommate that could be home. Definitely unnerving.

Here's hoping it turns up.

Nope - just nice Oakley swag (Time Machine, polarized Juliets, polarized Monster Doggs) along with a Tissot watch and Oakley Split Jackets. In the garage they swiped my new stereo for the 4Runner, older pop up DVD deck (out of my Tacoma), expensive Nemo tent and sleeping bags.

The entry into the garage allowed them to get into the house where they found the spare key.

Since you live in the cul-de-sac, I would imagine this is no pro thief(s) since there is only one way in and out. So either someone had been in your house before, knew what ya had, came in to take your stuff and the 4runner happened to be an extra bonus, OR someone was targeting the 4runner from the first time they saw it.

If there have been no other break ins in your neighborhood, I would want to know who knew when I was not going to be at home. Since they took the tent and sleeping bags (not desirable on the black market, I am guessing used), they plan to use them or give them to friends.

Also, take a pic of your 4runner to every pawn shop, paint and body shop, tire center, and off road store within a 50 mile radius. I would think it is still in town and will turn up sometime later.

How visible was that spare key?

City_Rider....

Sorry to hear about the theft of your 4Runner. You said you had the perception that you were on the good side of Karma, and I say that if that's the case, then you probably are. Things happen sometimes for no other reason than to simply guide us to our next opportunity. Don't waste your time on seeking revenge, but if it the opportunity presents itself, don't hesitate to take it either. Put the info out there as you've been doing so people can keep an eye out, learn what you can from this, and move on.

I hope first that these guys get caught.... second, that you get your 4Runner back in one peice....and third that if not, you build another 3rd gen.

Good luck man.
