Overdrive noise

When O/D/ is engaged the trans makes alot of noise. With the O/D off the trans is quiet and all is well. After reading some posts here, I see we should not have towed with the O/D on. Is only the O/D gear shredded? or did I ruin the transmission. 2001 ...186,000 miles.....

Any update to this? I uave the same. Issue. We just dropped the trans and replaced the torque converter and the issue persists.

I'd love to know if you solved this.
