rattle under steering wheel

so, the access panel right in front of the drivers legs, under the steering wheel is loose. the part that it screws into (actual thread part) under the key is busted off. no idea when or how it happened. can't even find the part. however, the panel now rattles, as it is not held on in the top right corner. if i push on it, to simulate the screw being in, all is silent. my question is this.

is that threaded part a part of the key trim panel, or not? and! if it is, any ideas on where to get a replacement for cheaper than dealer?

Re: rattle under steering wheel

No, they are separate from the key piece area. That key piece snaps out.

Can you snap a picture? Are you talking about this hole?

The part where the thread goes into - - is part of the actual "dash", not good. You can't see this until it's removed. Behind the dash piece it threads into is another piece that is metal which the bolt also goes through.

You are going to have to pull that panel off and look in there to see what is broken.

yeah, that is not what i wanted to hear. i was trying to remember what was back there, but couldn't, and by the time i get home, it is dark. perhaps i will have to figure something out. especially if it is the dash. it is just random that it is broken.
