HELP!!!! Do I need new bump stops or UCA's
I have read alot and done about an hour of research on the forum and still dont know what I need
So I was wheeling last weekend on a difficult rated trail (Heartbreak Ridge/Pontiac near Big Bear, CA) and came down a steep trail and had to make a sharp right hand turn. I was creeping down the sharp turn and the rubbing was insane and very loud. my tire had complety compresed under the weight up into the wheel well. In doing so my 285's ripped the bolt off of my Limited fender flares and now I have to repair them. After they were flapping around and rubbing a ton the rest of the trip.
I do have alot of weight upfront as I have an OutdoorLogic bumper and a winch. I am running the OME 882 and OME struts and shocks. I have a one inch body lift. I have 1.25 wheel spacers upfront. I have cut down the pinch weld and done some minor trimming but am tired of the rubbing?
What do I do? New bump stops? Would aftermarket UCA's help? Any tricks on keeping the flares from ripping off like that?
Thanks guys.
Dave

New bumpstops are made for the rear axle if thats where the rubbing occurs and they prevent too much axle travel. I guess this could prevent some rubbing in the rear but Im not sure. As far as the front goes it depends on where your rubbing. Im sure someone will comment on the front soon.

Its rubbing closest to the back of the front tire or you could say closest to the door

Bumpstops will just limit your uptravel in the front. Its a precious thing to loose though, but, it would work. I don't see how A-arms would limit the travel, it would just increase (only slightly) if anything.
Id personally just try my best to do some trimming where you're hitting. That, or go for a topout spacer on your 882's, or new coils, or a coilover.

Take a BFH and smash the pinch weld on the firewall until its out of the way. Then you probably want to cut some of the plastic fender lining off. THe loud rubbing tends to be the tire rubbing on that plastic
If your UCA bushings are bad enough to let the tire move back then it would be obvious. I had mine go out and that happen.
And You DONT need more of a body lift! People fit 35's with minor trimming and a 1" body lift. Trust me I just helped clearance Brian2suns fenders/firewall to fit 315's. If we got 35's in there with no rubbing , you can get 285's in there

Thanks J money. How do I keep the limited flare attached if I remove all the plastic? Can I just screw the limited flares anywhere into the body? When this happened the retainers that hold the screws in popped out.

those limited flares should be attached to the outside of the fender for the most part. They may have screws in the wheel well, but they also have those body clips. I would just remove the first couple screws and see how flimsy it is

The bolt is missing in the pictures. I went to the hardware store and got a couple pan head screws to replace the bolts; they are smooth in case the tire rubs the fender. The rest of the hardware is stock.
Thanks!
