For keyless remote, you just need to buy a new one from ebay (cost around $30) and follow the instruction to programming it in 2 minutes.

Then it's done!

remotesremotes.com

Just bought a replacement remote from RemotesRemotes.com - Replacement Keyless Entry Remote Key Fob Free Programming Instructions. $17.99, it shipped fast and is nice quality. It programmed just fine and has a nice range. For anyone looking for a replacement or spare, I would give these guys a thumbs up.

I bought a 2008 4Runner today and it only came with one key and it was an aftermarket key made by a company called Ingenuity. There’s no keyless entry remote. I’m wondering if I will be able to buy a new remote and program it without having the original keys. Any help would be appreciated!

Does your key lock/unlock the glovebox?
If so you have a master key regardless if it’s original or not. If it won’t work in the glovebox it’s a valet key.

With the master key you can enter programming mode and add a new fob to the system. Up to 4 fobs can be stored. You can’t do this with a valet key.

Grab spare fob from eBay/amazon or wherever , and follow these steps to program

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/1723861-post9.html

I’d get a spare key made up as well. Here’s the steps to program new keys.
How to make spare chipped keys

If your key is a valet key , you’ll need to go to the dealer and they can reset the system and re-add however many keys/fobs you like. Bring lube with you.

Replacement key for 2018

I've read through a lot of the posts about 4th gen T4R replacement key programming. Can this be done with a 2018? I just bought a new to me T4R and the dealer only had the one key. Any advice would be appreciated.

This being the 4th Gen forum section you might not get too many replies with help, since most of us only own 4th Gens.

That being said I don't really know the answer to your question...but I did go to the 5th Gen forum and did a search and found nothing about being able to program a key the way we can with a 4th Gen, it seems that the only way to program a key for 5th Gen is with Techstream, or find a auto locksmith with the ability to do the programming, if you shop around the locksmith will save you lots of money over a Toyota dealer doing it.

I had a ‘05 4runner that I totaled in a wreck. Got a new to me ‘08. Still have fob to ‘05. My question is can I use my old ‘05 fob on new ‘08?

Do the FCC IDs match to both FOBs? If so, Yes!

Free key blanks and remote fob

I had a '99 4Runner that I sold a while back. I just ran across two programmable key blanks and a replacement remote fob that I'd purchased. I had programmed the fob and it was working The keys have not been cut. They would need to be cut by a locksmith and then programmed by you for your 4Runner. Obviously, the fob will have to be re-programmed to your 4Runner. These are free to anyone who would like them. You pay shipping. I'll put them in a padded envelope and mail them the cheapest way. You can Venmo me, or Paypal me, or send me a check after you receive the fob and blanks.
