Installed new stainless steel Spectra gas tank straps. My rear most strap was toast. Pushed on the exposed bit on the frame side a while back and it crumpled into dust.

This is a fantastic DIY if anyone needs to do the same:
Fuel Tank Strap Replacement.

I ordered new OEM cotter pins/clips and strap bolts. Couldn’t find a part number on the gas tank skid bolts so I just bought some 8mm bolts locally. Hit everything with CorrosionX HD afterward to rust proof.

What I learned: when installing the new strap, attach the pin side first then do the bolt/frame side second.

Also a U-joint socket attachment is essential for the front most bolt directly above the drive shaft.

My front most gas tank skid bolt snapped though so that will need an EZ-out at some point.

Rotated the tires
Fixed the spare tire with a plug
Greased the driveshaft
Added rigid sae fog lights using brackets I had from my old work truck.

What did you do with your 4runner today?

Tore out my tired and leaking XREAS system and replaced it with new Moog springs and Bilstein 5100s, added Spidertrax wheel spacers and installed an Air Lift Wireless One system to help manage the load when hauling my motorcycle or tent trailer.

Got pics? I'm in a similar situation and considering that approach.

Dropped her off at this shop this morning for official headgasket diagnosis and replacement. :'(

Not looking forward to the bill, but it'll be nice to not have to worry about it. Should basically last forever after this speedbump! *knocks on frame*

Literally happened a month or two ago when I pulled off my towhook in my hand lol

Fortunately, that was localized and caused by a coolant leak. The rest of the frame looks pretty great.

My straps are bad, and on the list to replace in the very near future. Where did you find stainless straps? I saw the Spectra brand on Rock Auto, but it didn’t mention stainless. I would definitely prefer stainless for obvious reasons!

had my oil tested a while ago with blackstone, then left for a road trip. got the diagnosis back, and they said they detected traces of coolant in the oil. checked the coolant and it was indeed low. topped it off with some toyota formulated stuff, and haven't noticed a measurable drop in it.

when i got home from the trip, took it to an independent toyota shop and talked to the dude there. he didn't seem too concerned about it, as the truck is not throwing any codes, doesn't puff white on cold starts, and doesn't have a hard stumble. now, i have noticed some stumbles on cold starts, but it's more like a hiccup than anything. feeling a bit conflicted about the whole situation.

when i got the truck, i switched to mobil1 synthetic. that was 30k miles ago. for the next couple of changes i'm going back to a conv oil and send it back to blackstone.

My personal opinion: There should *never* be coolant in your oil. None. Not trace amounts. Nothing. The fact that Blackstone brought it up means there's an issue that you should definitely look into. And it's honestly scarier (to me) than if coolant was leaking into a cylinder, which is what would cause white smoke/misfires (and is what typically happens when people talk about 4th gen headgasket issues).

It means that coolant is leaking into your crankcase somehow. It won't necessarily affect driving performance. The risk is that it thins out your oil and you spin a rod bearing because they're not lubricated well enough. Essentially destroying your engine as that will send metal shavings throughout the block.
