Added a voltmeter/usb charger to the center console. Yes my center console is a little dusty from this past weekend.

If it were not for the Covid-19 crisis, I probably would've never gotten to the mods I've had planned for years. I'm almost done. All that is left is to install front camera (haven't figured out how/where to mount it).
1) I installed the factory E7009 NAV years ago, but never bothered to get the voice nav, microphone or backup camera to work. I got the camera to work, but the mic or voice nav not so much. Not sure what happened, but I had a plan B.
2) Installed the GX470 overhead console. Worth the trouble to install IMO.
3) Repaired the illumination of my HVAC display. Long story.
4) Installed a Gentex mirror. Has homelink, mirror darkens when lights hit it, compass and a monitor (I have a front camera planned)
5) Installed
@ J.A.
's NAV bypass (fools the NAV that the car is stopped so it doesn't lock me out while driving). Instead of a simple switch, I got a Toyota-looking button and installed it on the center console. Factory looking.
6) Installed Grom Audio USB3 with a bluetooth accessory (so the mic I never got working is replaced by this AND I'll be able to use the car's speakers for calls and music while using the NAV screen)
7) Installed ambient LEDs (oznium tiny LEDs) for the footwells. Connected them to the cupholder lights so they dim with the dimmer.
8) While I had the console apart, I got another LED I used for the footwells and installed it into the console. Sucks when I look into it and it's pitch black.
9) Got rid of the grab handle plugs on the driver's side and installed a Volvo sunglass holder. It is 90% done, the holes of the holder line up with one of the bolts (instead of both of them) and a hole for a clip. I have to find a clip that works with this.
Gentex Mirror and GX console
GX Console
Footwell ambient LED, picture is deceiving, they are dimmer than the picture shows.
Note the HVAC display (looks factory now as opposed to the disaster before), ambient LED and GPS switch on the console. About 5 years ago, I gutted the assembly to accomodate LED strips behind the display. Didn't work as planned as the display made it look very blotchy. Absolute crap. Never got the time to repair this until now.
Clearer pic of the GPS button.
Rear camera (no, the engine was not on, LOL)
Sunglass holder. Only 1 screw is holding it in, all I have to do is find the right sized clip (or screw) to fully secure it in place.
Sumnab&tch
While doing all this, I notice a couple of bulbs out (rear window switch and recirculation button) and ordered the appropriate bulbs (BTW: Rear Window bulb: 90010-11088 and Recirculation button bulb: 90010-09019). I have yet to fish the wires for the front camera through the firewall (I expect to learn german curse words during this).
I'll try to do a full detail, BUT I think it needs a "paint correction". That is expensive, but then again, I do plan on keeping my rig for........... umm..... forever.

How are you liking those in tires in E? That's the size that I really want to get but the E range scares me both from weight and that I've heard the ride is really, really stiff until you air down. Not sure how it will affect the tread wear if you air down on pavement for long miles. Only a v6 here though, so maybe the weight wouldn't affect my mpgs as bad.

Smoker's kit on the left and 08-09 Console parts on the right.
Smoker's kit drawing on top and 08-09 Console parts on bottom. The switch and 2 extra outlets are straight forward.
Anyway, I like to "draw out" what I'm going to do before I start messing with wires. Adding LEDs and stupid stuff is easy, but this is a little more advanced (even for me)
For this mod to go forward:
1) figure out the wiring ( 90% figured out)
2) This will render the current RWindow switch worthless. It will (at least I would like to) be replaced by the Hazard light button. Am I the only one who thinks the Hazard button is STUPIDLY placed? Why is it placed way over in Egypt???
3) Current Hazard light button will then be empty. Haven't decided what to do with this yet. I was playing around with the idea of fitting my digital inclinometer there (haven't taken any measurements yet.........)
Anyway, thought I would share......................
|
In respond to my own thread years ago, I decided to revisit this mod idea and came to my own conclusion on going forward with this (no).
1) The Hazard light switch doesn't carry over to the other side. Hole on the driver's side is too big. Pretty sure there IS a toyota hazard button that does fit it, but I don't have the part number. Anyway, even if you do carry the button over, I did get a "blank" cover from Toyota to fill it in.
2) The wiring is straight forward, but you will need to manually wire up the second cig lighter.
3) To get the rear window to work, you will have to run the wires from the dash to the console (not a big deal if you really want this to work).
4) I like my smokers kit better, LOL.

Lookin good.
Depending on your free time I would look into detailing it yourself. Might cost you $200 for the tools and products but it's something I've enjoyed doing myself. Lots of guides on youtube, if you buy a Porter Cable orbital polisher (or one with a clutch, not direct drive) you really can't damage the paint if you tried.

Way ahead of ya, I have the PC polisher and all the pads, etc. It's just the time involved. The last time I did this was about 3 years ago and it took 4-5 hours. Even then it didn't come out like I wanted it to. I'll just clean it up real good, shampoo the carpets, clean the motor/engine bay, clean and condition the leather and just get a good cleaner wax (less time for me). I honestly don't have the hours necessary to fully complete the paint correction. I wish had the time (5 hours straight without interruption ..... I have small kids) and my 18 year old body back, LOL.
Paying a professional the $200-300 to get a mirror finish back is worth it to me. I'd LOVE to get a ceramic sealer, but I know that will cost lots more. However, that is something I'm willing to do myself even if I get an OTC product.

Replaced my hatch weatherstip today! Took 5 minutes, if that, and $45 for an OEM one from eBay.

E loads really aren't that bad stiffness-wise, imo. If anything, the vehicle feels more responsive, and they give great peace of mine against punctures offroad. Overkill? Probably, but I have liked mine.

Looks good, like that orange ambient lighting, glad to see it’s all coming together. Thanks for posting, just noticed my rear window switch bulb is out and this saves me from having to find part#. One of my HVAC bulbs recently went out too and just replaced. ALL my lights worked before I continued to disassemble and reassemble my dash panels and think that’s what causing it. Messing up the filaments. Darn it lol. I have a front camera on order now and plan on putting in soon hopefully, post up where you put it.

Awesome, I need to do mine too. Mine is trashed, gives me the motivation since it’s such an easy job.

I'm in between the side of the logo on the grille, or below on the bumper grille. I'll post when and where I install it.

Left the 4Runner at home this evening for my drive to the city. Since I’ve got my 4Runner February this year I have only driven my early 2019 Subaru Crosstrek about 4 times and was worried about the battery and gas going bad or gumming things. I start it here and there but that’s about it.
I didn’t really want to drive the Subi. but felt I’d better. Kind of hard to relearn all the steering wheel controls and placement of everything. Sure miss the gas mileage but don’t mind too bad since I love driving my 4Runner.
Since having the 4Runner I’ve found myself trying to duplicate so many things (except for the lack of H.P. Lol) I’ve come to love with modern technology. I’d list them all but would take too long haha.

No issues so far! I'm on mobile right now so I can't see where you are, but I'm local to them and placed the order one afternoon, they started building them that day and I picked them up the next day. So far, 10/10, would recommend
