2006 4Runner - Midas Muffler - Control Arm w/ Ball & Sway Bar + Bushings Replaced

Hey ~

First time posting...really appreciate u guys posting ur years of experience here. My question: 2 days ago I had Midas Muffler in Connecticut replace both control arms w/ ball "JT" + front sway bar bushings & links. $1000 all-in. 202k on the truck, 5k or so miles off-road - champion machine!

My issue: On road, the truck is riding better than ever, but now when I go over a speed bump, I'm hearing a hard squeaking noise coming from the front end. Sounds like springs.

Any idea what this problem could be? I called Midas & they said "we installed everything properly & it's not anything we did. If the noise continues, take it to Toyota service..." Toyota quote for the same job was $1,600.

From watching youtube vids, it seemed like a straight forward repair, but beyond what I felt capable to take on. Ok, well any thoughts or input would be HUGELY appreciated. Onward!

Ken

I've spent a ton of time trying to figure out what to do with for a lift. I did tons of research here. My T4R is my daily driver. I don't go off-road that often and when I do, it's easy trails.
When I first got my 08, I had replaced the front springs and shocks with the KYB strut plus assembly. This almost leveled the front.
I decided I wanted a bit more. I ended up with Cornfed 1.5 front and 1 rear from Burtman Industries. I went with 1.5 on front because I was afraid 2" would make it nose high plus I got a great deal on this kit. I also replaced rear shocks with Bilstein 4600 and oem springs. I am happy with the result as I didn't want anything too crazy.....,yet. Burtman was awesome to deal with and the Cornfed is high quality.

Missing anything for the lift?

Thought I'd ask the question here just in case I missed anything.
I am finally getting around to piecing together my proper lift kit to replace my Daystar 2.5/1.5. I've been researching this stuff for a couple years for my rig and think I've got it pretty dialed in. Looking for 2"-2.5" up front and 2-3" rear.
Here is what I've got planned:

Front:
Fox 2.5 Coilover non res
Total Chaos UCA
Extended SS Brake Lines (installed)
DuroBumps front Bump Stops (to be purchased)
SwayBar Relocation Bracket (to be purchased)

Rear:
Fox 2.0 w/ Res. & Adjuster
Dobinsons C59-675V Coils (to be purchased)
Extended SS Brake Lines (installed)
DuroBumps rear Bump Stops (to be purchased)
Pro Forged Extended Rear End Links

Wondering if I've missed anything?

Thanks!

I just picked an 07 4Runner for my daughter. Looking at you post for the suspension lift is pretty much what I was looking to do.
Do you what the part number of the rear Bilstein's is?
Thanks, NT

Bilstein 4600

Hello,

Brand new member here. I have a 2006 4runner with 120k that is completely stock. I figured it's time to upgrade the suspension. My original plan was to get 5100's all around but I ended up with 4600's.....Long story.... but I have no way of returning them. So my question is what are my spring options for this shock? Can I get away with a taller spring than the oem ones or is that frowned upon? I can't seem to find any instances of folks putting taller springs on stock height shocks. Is that frowned upon? I'm just looking for 1-1.5 in front and 0.5-1 inch rear. I was thinking of MOOG FJ's but am open to any suggestions you guys might have. Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Baseline to measure lift

Hello!

It's time for me to upgrade to better tires as I think I am finished with suspension work at least for now and measured at 21.5" from hub to fender. I really like the idea of 255/80r17 but I don't want to chop mounts, I am cool with trimming tho if it's minor.

I read that 2.5" lift is often enough to fit them and was wondering if someone knows stock height (without saggy coils) or if someone knows exactly how high their lift is? I read somewhere that stock height is 19" or 18" but 1 inch I guess can make a difference in this case hmm

Thanks!

19" seems to be the average I have seen, I was at 19" when I did my lift with blown XREAS junk. I run 255's without rub and stock wheels with 1.5" spacers. I got 3.5" in the front with my set-up.

Will this work to get a mild lift/front leveling?

Shocks: Bilstein 5100 Front: 1.75"
Rear spacer: Cornfed .75"

THanks!

This forum doesnt seem to have too many answers lately (I feel t4r is kind of dead) but anyways I highly recommend Dobinson springs to go with the 4600. I've heard nothing but complaints about the MOOG FJ springs (at least here in the forums). Most times people have to do cutting to get them to fit. If you can find older OEM FJ coils they will work great. Might also try looking at Toytec, they are a safe bet.

4600's are not designed for lifted applications, you are best sticking with the stock height spring or get the 5100's. FJ stock springs should be fine too.

+1 on the bilstein 5100 all around as a basic setup. Here's my experience with it. At the moment I have 5100's and OEM coils on the front and rear. This is ok but you are going to want to improve the vehicle's handling down the road for sure.
My 2008 is a daily driver and where I live there are alot of pot holes and uneven pavement http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/c...racter0182.gif. I don't have to travel very far from home most days. And 65% of the week my truck is parked up. But, when I do have to get out drive around and I'm out and about for a few hours, I feel the suspension go from a soft yet sturdy ride at the beginning of the day to a soft and slushy ride https://t4r-1351852ontarioin.netdna-...ilies/help.gif by the end of the day. And I'll start out day 2 with the same slushy kind of ride. My mechanic had explained to me the spring rate has to be increased on my truck to get my handling up to par. And I believe it because when my truck isn't being driven for about 2 to 3 days at all, my suspension feels like it got a chance to reset back to the soft and sturdy ride. And that's why many of the times you read posts where people recommend also swapping the coils.

I want to fit 255/75-17 tires and according to the OP, a 2/1 lift will work. Is this net lift? Kits listed have net lifts greater than 2/1. I want to avoid lifting higher than needed.

Any info. here could really help!
