Its unlikely its the UCA unless you got a 2+ lift. This is the expensive route.

Check by turning your wheel until its close to rubbing and take a look at what components are touching.

Thanks ya'll! I have actually read that exact post before and for some reason, didn't ever get around to trying it. This fixed 99% of my rubbing. I can't move the passenger fender liner forward quite far enough to have my wheel fully clocked to the right, but it can get very close w/o any rubbing so I'll take it. Huge improvement from before.

Also FYI, I don't have spacers but I do have -12 offset wheels so they are pushed out quite a bit from stock.

2004 SR5 Lift choice

Longtime lurker and have had many runners and Tacoma's but this is my first 4th gen. Question? I am planning to run Bilstein b8-5160 and icon 52700 springs for the rear which should net 2". What is a good choice for the front?

The suspension in my '03 Sport is really tired. The full tread stock-sized tires are rubbing the front is so saggy. What is the most inexpensive upgrade? 5100s? I can't do pucks as the shocks really need to be replaced.

You sound like a perfect candidate for a Tacoma swap. See the link in my sig, which also has info on removing X-REAS. My setup has evolved a bit but my first one only cost me $200 total and it rode great on and off the pavement. Happy to answer any specific questions you may have.

What is the ideal swap combo? 3rd gen Tacoma for front and what for rear?

Yes, 3rd gen Tacoma up front. You can usually find them pretty easily on FB Marketplace. You'll need to decide your mileage threshold but people often swap out their suspensions pretty soon after buying the vehicle so finding one with lower mileage (say 10K or less) shouldn't be too much trouble. They're plug and play on 4th Gens so the install is pretty simple and of course the coilovers are already assembled so that will save you a lot of time and trouble.

For the rear, the Bilstein 4600 or 5100 work well. You can certainly use the Tacoma rear shocks if you're willing to swap out the bushings but Bilstein's offerings that are 4Runner specific are noticeably beefier. As for springs, all I've had are the OEM FJ springs I put on so I can't comment on other brands. At least one aftermarket set (I want to say Moog?) has presented fit problems. You'll want to research that if you decide to buy aftermarket.

What's the advantage of a 3rd gen Tacoma suspension over a 5th gen 4Runner for a 4th gen?

Hi bluesky,. I'm in the same boat as gloch with a sad 2003 4runner needing some updates. I don't have the Xreas to worry about and it's just a stock 2003. Ive found a stock set on FB marketplace as you suggested. (I'm in Canada so the price doesn't seem bad at $300). Since it's both front and rear you say I'll probably only need some different bushings for the rear? They say they only had it in for 1 month.

Thx

That I can’t answer. I have no experience with the 5th Gen 4Runner set up and it’s all subjective in any case.

This is from a 3rd Gen Tacoma? The set I got was from a TRD Offroad edition but the other trim levels should work as well. You will need to assemble the front coilovers, which can be done following one of the many threads on the forum. Bushing info is below. I would also recommend new rear springs but that’s not mandatory.

Rear shock bushings: here's a thread about ways to change the bushings and my post showing how I did it using the Pitman puller method. Be sure to get this one (Autozone p/n 27022). It’s the smaller of the two that they loan. The “jaws” on the larger one are too wide.

Amazing thread and sticky. I have an 06' SR5 V8 4WD. I'd like to do a mild overall lift with a slight front rake with Trd Pro wheels (P265/70R17) and was wondering if I buy the 6112 for the fronts (and 5100s for the rear), would the specific springs that came with the 6112 be sufficient? I know the v8 and 4wd system adds about ~500lbs so I wanted to be sure. Thanks in advance!

Looking forward to seeing this beast

Im not too familiar with aftermarket rear axles. Can you explain why you got a new one rather than replacing the gears in the stock housing?

I was debating between Bilstein 6112 and eibach but finally pulled the trigger on Dobinsons.

Anyone have suggestions on an overall bushing kit for a 4th gen 4Runner? Extra bonus if they ship to Canada and are reasonable? I'm planning to revamp my suspension over the next few months, but not breaking the bank so mostly hand me downs from Facebook marketplace.

Looked around and see mostly energy suspension and in Canada we have siberian bushings but damn $700 is a bit much for this guy. And I can't seem to find a kit for the 4th gen 4Runner on their website. Am I better to just piecemeal it out and just do the front and rear shock kits and the front and rear bump stops?

Thx
Appreciate any responses.
