Soooo here is my plan, would love some feedback. I have a V8 with Shrockworks front bumper/winch & I have a drawer system so some load in the back.
-Keep my TRD Offroad 4x4 Taco springs
-Swap out front coils with 5100's @ 1.75" lift (and .25" spacer on drivers side)
-Replace rear shocks with 5100's
-Replace rear coils with the Wheelers T12

Any thoughts? I would like to get about 1.5" - 2" of lift in the front and 1.5" in the back.

Help

I have an 07 4runner with Bilstein 5100s all around. Front is set at 2.5” (3rd notch) and running with stock front coils. Rear is paired with a 1.5” spacer. I’ve been looking for a way to ‘smoothen’ out the ride as it is a little stiff for my taste. I’ve seen a lot of stuff about the OME front coil springs but from what I’ve read they only are meant to be used with Bilsteins set at the first notch or 0” position. Curious if anyone can help me out. I’m not looking to lift the truck anymore just a way to soften up the ride

Hey guys trying you get your opinions on rear shocks. I will be putting on rear OME 895 coils and wanted to see want shocks to go with. Looking at the Fox 2.0 2”-3” shocks or the ICON 2.0 shocks that are good for 1-3”

Why not go with the OME Nitrocharger shocks? They are valved to match the coils and IMO they ride pretty well (at least to my tastes). They are also very beefy, which is nice.

GX460 suspension fitment for 4th gen

Hey Guys!

I've been a member here for a while and find all the information helpful. This is my first post on this forum. I have searched but cannot find the information I am looking for.

I have an '08 T4R 2WD SR5. Recently picked up a '17 GX460 with the intention of modding.

Question is, would the take off suspension from the GX fit the 4th gen? if not a direct fitment, then are there adapters or mods to make it work?

It would be nice since the shocks on the 4th gen are pretty worn out at 120K miles. If you know the answer or can point me in the direction with a link, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks guys!

This one thread literally just answered every question I could have thought of and then some! I’m looking at buying a 2003 V8 Limited on Wednesday and was wondering about lift and tires, which will be my first two major mods. I’m finding more and more info on here than I could’ve ever thought of. One question; is it ok to add the beefier suspension ahead of adding armor? I don’t want to spend money on a lift then have to replace it 6 months or however soon after buying armor.

OME 2884: 1.5-1.75"
OME 2885: 2.0-2.25"
OME 2887: 2.5-2.75"

Reading through most of the info available, these values seem a little low. Any thoughts? I'm looking for around 2.5-3.0" in the front for my new lift.
interested in knowing what you ended up with, and especially what you are running in the rear to match...

I have almost the exact same set up on my '06 and have been wondering the same. Keep me posted if you come up with anything, I'll do the same...

I can tell you from my mistake (or rather lack of information with the kit) I set the 5100s on the last perch with the ome springs. The nose sat damn near a 5in lift and almost blew out both cv axles lol.

If you're after the carolina squat, then you can perch em up ! ;) I ended up setting it not on the 0 perch position but the first and so far its been working out good.

First pic was the last perch, second is how it sits now on the first perch

It'll be fine getting the heavier suspension now, you'll just have to deal with a stiffer ride until the steel goes on the truck.
I personally will be going the other way, I'm making my armor and when the truck is done and loaded I'll weigh each corner, or at least the front and back. With all that info I'll call dobinson and get the correct springs and shocks first time. I do not want to have to put on a lift then buy more springs and swap them out if I don't have to. For the week or two I'll be on stock springs with extra weight I'll ride low, maybe wallow through a corner. But I'll drive like I expect that to happen and things will be just fine, no different than driving it around fully loaded for a camping and fishing trip.

Hi all,
I'm new to these forums. I own a white 2004 V6 4WD Sport Edition. She's got 204K+ miles on her. She has been reliable for many, many years now. Unfortunately, I believe it's time to start doing some upgrading. This thread seems to be a good place to start.

Oops, I must have somehow hit submit before I was finished.

Anyhow, I'm pretty much sold on Bilstein 5100 shocks all the way around. I only do some weekend off-roading, and even then, it's not too serious. However, since I'm looking to upgrade my shocks I thought I'd come here to check out other options.

The Bilsteins seem most appropriate for my ride as I don't want to lose the road manners of the original system (Xreas). I've seen other post where folks remove the entire system. This I DO NOT want to do. I've seen that the 5100s do not come with springs and I've read where others keep the springs, while others replace them. A lot suggestions say to look on Craigslist for used FJ springs to replace the OEM springs. I'd rather just get new springs to be honest.

With that being said, can anyone recommend springs for the front and rear? I've read that some aftermarket springs don't fit exactly.

Any help is appreciated.

HB

First of all, many thanks to everyone who's posted advice and instructions here for swapping out the X-Reas system. I went with Bilsteins and my 4Runner rides better than ever. With that said...

I may have done a dumb thing. I think I may have missed a part when I reassembled the driver's side shock assembly.

The picture for the assembly only shows one shock absorber cushion that goes on top of the Shock Mount/Front Suspension Support Sub-Assembly (Part 48609). However, it also shows a Retainer Washer (Part 48510B) that gets installed under the Shock Mount. The original part diagram calls this a "Front Shock Absorber Cushion Retainer," which makes me think there should be a cushion between it and the Shock Mount. When I installed the new shock, I know I didn't install a cushion between these two parts. Also, I don't recall if the old shock had a cushion when I removed it and sadly I threw it away. On most applications, including the rear shocks, there's a bushing on both sides of the upper shock mount.

What's happening now is that I'm getting a metal on metal slapping/clinking noise whenever I go over washboard road that cycles the suspension quickly. I checked the skid plates, and those are tight. So, I have a feeling it's because I messed up and should have installed a cushion in-between these parts. However, the parts diagram doesn't show one. Does anyone know if there should be a cushion in between the lower washer and the mount; and if so, is the part the same as 48510J, or does the cushion come attached to the underside of the shock mount?

I’m pretty new to this, but I think you’d want to know how much you’re going to weigh down the truck with skid plates, sliders, bumpers, roof racks, drawer systems, etc... before selecting a suspension upgrade. You want to get springs rated for the appropriate rate. You could get stiffer springs first, but it will ride like shit.
