So Im hesitating between Bilstein 6112 with 5110 or 5100 all around. With 2.75" lift for borh

My garagist suggested 5100 so I can go with ARB coils.

Is there any big difference in long terms?

My 2008 v6 is my DD and more city plus highway. Do some light to medium trail in summer.

Thanks !

Thumbs up

I'm new here so forgive me if this has been answered, I've been digging for a good week and have an exactly found what I was looking for.

Recently picked up a full set of 2020 Tacoma TRD off-road suspension for cheap, and purchase the mid-level Bilstein B12 rear springs to go with it. I've seen most people that run this setup go with a slightly larger than stock tire as the fronts typically seem to lift about 2 in. The thing is when I bought the suspension the guy threw in 1 inch billet spacers on the front struts, and from what I've read these will give an additional 2 inches over the TRD OR struts. I guess I am concerned keeping the spacer on the struts will put me way nose high and I was wondering if I would be better off getting a smaller spacer to hopefully get closer to a 3/2 lift

Another question, if I was to take the spacer off and just run the TRD suspension, does anyone have experience making 285/70 fit or would it be smarter to go with a 275?

Thank you to everyone in advance I've learned a ton from this forum already!

I had the same decision and went 6112 with 5160 and Icon 2” rear spring. The 6112 is much larger and generally rides better than 5100. The 5160 was designed to match this but I wrestled with the idea of doing 5100s in the rear. I’m sure it would have been fine but I had a little extra cash and was okay paying more for 5160.

In my opinion, if you’re not getting lift springs with the 5100, and instead you’re adjusting the circlip to accommodate a higher lift on the stock spring, you may have poor/harsh ride characteristics at low speed.

I agree with you that spacers on the front will be too much. FWIW, this is a quick garage shot of my 2007 with the same front coilover + shock combo you bought, 4Runner 4600s/FJ springs on the rear, and stock size Michelins. It's not 100% level but it's very close.

I appreciate it. Is there any shot you could get a 275/70 in the front or would it be too tight? I'm looking for a leveled out look like yours (mines even silver) and the largest tire I can fit comfortably without having to cut up a bunch of stuff unnecessarily.

That I don’t know. You might talk with your tire dealer (Discount Tire, etc.) as they’ve probably seen it all.

Picked up front springs and shocks and rear shocks from a 2020 TRD off road Tacoma today. Ordered new top hats and the bushings for the rear. My question is will I need a spacer in the back to make it look right and how much lift will those springs give my '05 V8.

Upgraded Suspension on 05 Limited

Finally upgraded suspension on 05 Limited AWD. Here are the details:

Front: Bilstein 6112 with supplied springs; Dirt King UCAs;
Rear: Icon 2.0 Shocks and Icon 2 inch Springs
Tire size: 265/70/17 with TRD Off Road Rims

Results: 3.5" increase in front, 2" increase in Rear; Keep in mind I had 157k miles and non xreas suspension was likely sagging worn;
Ride is great and much smoother; Need to get alignment;

**Note: I chose Icon 2.0 since Bilsteins 6112 or 5100 were on back order;

Before: Day Photo
After: Night Photo

What clip setting did you use on the 6112? How’s it ride?

I have a lot of bounce in the rear

Just picked up my first 4runner! 2007 V6 Sport Edition 4X4. The current suspension setup is: Blistens 5100 in the front and currently at a 2.5" lift less than a year old. I believe the rear is stock. I have 120k miles on it so I assuming the rear shocks are shot. I am getting a bouncy rear, just like a Cadillac. What would be a good set of rear shocks to compliment the Blistens? It will be a daily driver in the colder seasons. I plan on using it on the sand and sometimes off roading. Not much rock crawling. Thanks for all the replies!

It was set on the highest lift setting. I used the springs that were part of the 6112 package.

Hi and ride very smooth with no squat anymore when braking. I wasn't able to drive off road but it feels very smooth and much more controlled on rough broken asphalt. Not much stiffer or bone jarring than OEM at 150k miles.

I can’t really speak from much experience I haven’t done my lift yet but from doing research you can stick with bilstien 5100s on the rear (like $99 per shock on Amazon) and pair them with ome (old man emu) coils. The bilstien 5100s will give a ride height of 2 inch in the rear so it should level your 4Runner pretty well and the ome coils I believe are 3 inch lift. Should run you around $350-$400 if you do it yourself, probably an extra $500 to $1000 if you take it to a shop.

I have a stock '08 V8 that I'm looking to swap out the XREAS. I can’t really figure out the difference between the Eibach kit and Bilsten 5100/OME coils. My front springs are sagging pretty bad so I plan on replacing those. I have been reading for weeks now and I cannot really decipher the difference between the Eibach lift kit and Bilsten 5100/OME combo? The shop I was quoted at also said I would benefit from new upper control arms due to the heavily sagging springs, is that necessary? I mainly want no higher than a 2inch lift front 1 inch back to level out.

Hey Guys,

Long time lurker first time poster.

It was about time for some new shocks on my '06 Limited. I ordered 5100's and some KYB strut mounts.

Strut mounts came in today and all of the nuts appear to have deliberate notches in the threads but they are very difficult to screw down once you hit this part of the thread. Are these supposed to be there to add some resistance on the thread, or are my nuts damaged? I added some photos to show what I am talking about.

Those are a type of "locking nut" the extra tension from the notches keep the nuts from backing off/coming loose, which you don't want to happen.
