Quite understandable! As for your question, it's a tough one to answer b/c ride comfort and handling are subjective. My experience with the Tacoma front coilover combo, first off a 2015 Tacoma and later off a 2020 (both the TRD Offroad editions), was that they were - for me - a perfect blend of on- and off-pavement ride and handling. The shocks for those Tacoma setups are also Bilstein, though not the 5100 specifically.

Just replaced my Bilstein 5100s with the same, as well as tires. I had roughly 100k miles since my initial install of the 5100s with FJ cruiser springs. I went with Cooper Discoverer's with a 265/70/17 profile. The tires have a slight rub on full lock turn, but ride very nicely! 170k miles and this truck still rocks!

What rear shocks did you use? The stocks won't work without X-REAS correct?

First, I apologize if this has already been covered, but 108 pages is a lot to go through.
I have a 2005 4Runner Sport V8 (4wd). The factory XREAS is completely worn out at this point and I'm researching options. So far, I'm fairly sold on the Bilstein 5100 and OME LD springs (2884/2895E). I want to keep the lift around 2" or less, just enough to clear 265/70/17 tires. How have those that have installed this combo liked it? Second, are aftermarket upper control arms really necessary in this instance? I don't do any offroading but do intend to tow once in a while.

Couple of notes - I recently finished my transition to all Eibach shocks and springs and couldn't be happier. Ride and handling are great and their customer service is outstanding. Highly recommend their gear.
Also, anyone who needs a 1/4" spacer to correct the "driver's side lean" and wants one essentially free, please look here. (Note - this spacer gives 1/2" lift due to suspension geometry.) It's new other than being installed for a couple of hours until I decided not to use it. Never left the garage with it installed.

So I'm set on getting a Dobinsons IMS setup with JBA HD high caster UCAs that I already got for a steal. My original LCAs are shot, and I'm trying to decide what to go with for a new set of LCAs without spending a fortune. It seems people like the SuperPro offset arms for the money. I just have no idea if I should go with LCAs with MORE built in caster or if I should stick with something stock geometry on the bottom on the chance I'll get enough with just the JBA UCAs. Planning to lift 2.5". Anyone have suggestions?
TIA!

Anyone have leads on where to look for a lift kit in Canada (Squamish, BC)? Or help me confirm that I'm getting the right parts if I put together a lift myself
Looking to do a 2-2.5" front/1.5-2" rear lift with bilstein 5100's; or the most I can get away with without new control arms/dropping the diff. We have a 2003 v8. I'm confident I can install a lift on the car if I have all the correct components, just having trouble piecing together the parts I'll need as I'm not (yet) a car guy and don't know what I'm looking for.
If I get this set, do I also need new coils or can I use the stock ones? If I can do either, is it worth getting new coils at the same time, and which ones should I be getting? I have a coil compressor tool I can borrow.
Thanks so much in advance. Stoked to be part of the community - Erik

My 2 cents fwiw. Springs are relatively inexpensive. Yours have been carrying a ~2000 KG SUV around for 20 years and likely what, at least 240,000 KM? Also, when I was making these decisions, I knew if I used my stock coils that I would always wonder how much better the ride and handling would have been with new coils. You can read my whole suspension saga via the link in my sig if you wish. I now have a full Eibach setup and it’s terrific, as is their customer service. Happy to answer any questions you have as best I can.

Yeah I was looking back through this thread and read your previous comments, they are very helpful and I have to agree. Only 170xxxkm though ;)!
Do you have any recommendations for coils that will pair well with 5100's?

Thanks, I appreciate your kind words. I have no direct experience with the 5100 though I did have the Bilstein TRD Offroad shocks from a 2020 Tacoma on the front of my truck. They're similar to the 4600, which is similar to the 5100. (Others may chime in detailing the exact differences, and that's fine; it's why I said "similar.") So my front coils were the ones Toyota paired with those TRD Offroad shocks. Coincidentally, I just took them off as I went with Eibach all around, so here's what they look like.
From what I recall of the discussion through the years, FJ springs are a popular spring with 5100s. Hopefully others with that setup will comment.

Thinking of going with this 2" OME kit.
To me it looks like it fits the bill for
1) Full kit, it has everything I need
2) 2" is low enough to not need diff drop, uca's, etc.
3) 2" may also be low enough to add another .5" in the front with spacers and still avoid the above? Likely won't care about the rake but just thinking ahead.
Any comments before I pull the trigger?
