Just so you guys know, if you install the HID kit from KBcarstuff your HID's will stay on even when you activate the high beams. If you do this fog light mod, it will then let you have your lows, highs, and fogs all at the same time. Not sure why anyone would need that, but it's possible.

Interesting, I had a guy flipping me off on Sunday and yelling out his window because he thought I was following with my high beams on. All I had was my headlights and fogs on. I even blinked my brights so he could see that I didn't have my highs on. This would have REALLY pissed him off

Sounds like you may need to aim your headlights a bit lower. I lowered mine so that the cut-off is right at most trunk lids when at a reasonable following distance and no one seems to be bothered. There is also plenty of light on a dark, deserted road. I used the factory aiming specs that I found somewhere on this forum as a starting point and even made two "templates" out of two lengths of 2x4 lumber.
If it was just that one guy, he may have just been having a bad day regardless of your headlights! ;-)

Just a little confusion.
Okay, with this Mod, when your headlights are in auto and your fog light switch is on, and I leave my headlights in auto and turn the vehicle off will the fogs stay on the like 30 seconds the rest of my headlights do?
This is what I want.
Fog light switch to work independent of the headlights, but also stay on like they are in auto...
What I am thinking..
I need to bring +12 and -12 to the coil from a source on the 4Runnner that comes on with the ignition switch and off 30 second after the ignition is off. Right? but the neg side I actually need to send before the fog light switch so I can still turn them off..

Did both parts of this mod and it was easy with great results. Thanks JA!

Even with the all the switches in the on position, the fog lights will still turn off when the ignition's off because of where the Relay Pin 2 is connected, according to J.A.'s instructions.

Drew a nice picture of what I think you need to do: What if you put in another relay whose solenoid's is in series with the Headlight relay's solenoid? All the orange lines are new wires, notice the headlight relay now needs to be connected via jumper wires so the new relay can be connected.

I don't understand why you think the new relay is necessary. The coil side of the factory relay is already normally powered off the switched side of the headlight relay. The body ECU will turn off the headlight relay 30 seconds after the ignition is turned off, the drivers door has been opened and shut, and all other doors are also shut.
I would be cautious adding additional load like another coil to the HRLY signal from the ECU. Normally transistor based output stages are limited to 200-300 mA of current, which is enough for only one relay coil. If the ECU doesn't have internal overload protection, you could damage the ECU. Typically, this would result in the output stage transistor getting shorted, which would make it so that the Body ECU would not longer be able to control the headlight relay. In a worst case scenario, it would render your headlights inoperable.
If you feel that the additional relay is needed, it would be better to tap the Red-Black wire coming from pin 3 of the headlight relay as the 12V supply to the aux relay.

I ended up bending pin 2 of the fog relay and soldering a diode (cathode up anode down) on the bottom to go in the orig pin hole and then crimping a diode (cathode towards the relay anode away) and the other end wire going to the hot 12v side of the heated seat 25 amp fuse. I also spliced the grounds together under the steering cover like in JA's write up.
With this my results are:
When the ignition is on my fogs work according to the switch. They also work with the high beams. Also whenever the auto lights are on after the ignition is off the fogs stay on with the headlights just like the normally would and go off after the 30sec or 2 presses of the lock on the remote.
With the ignition on- fogs on
On with parking lights.
On with headlights.
And high beams.
And proving the fogs do go off
And ignition still on with fogs and all lights off.
Thanks

The Fog relay's factory connection of pin 2 is the headlight relay pin 3 after the HighBeam fuse. Are you suggesting connecting pin 2 of the fog light relay between the headlight relay and the HighBeam fuse?
I do know that both my drawing and this new connection suggestion do not have a fuse protecting the fog light circuit, so one needs to be added.

In JA's version of the mod, pin 2 of the fog relay is connected to either the IG relay (pin 1) if you have an SR5 or Sport, or tapped off the 25A seat heater fuse on the limited.
Toyota 4Runner Independent use of Fog Light Mod
If you are only interested in defeating the fog/high beam interlock, then you only need o connect the blue (or red/green on 06+) jumper wire in on the headlight stalk to chassis ground (white/black in the drawing above).

Well done. Two question for you though:
1) What size diode did you use?
2) Your running lights/blinkers are turned off. Was that a different mod or an effect of this one? Hope it's the prior.

As for he diode-I don't really know. It's really little though. I just found it laying around
And I don't have daytime running lights on my 4runner,and how I have my relay wired in it has a 12v whenever the ignition is on so they are just on when all my other lights are off.

Here's a link to download the Service Manual. This is one of the stickies in the 4th Gen Thread.
