The Xterra is whole other animal. It's a great little truck and loads of fun to drive, but it's true that the S/C devours gas (premium at that) and although it's powerful enough to get out of it's own way it won't be winning any races anytime soon. It's got a mug that only a mother could love but in my opinion it screams personality.
Some pics in case you're interested.
My jaw dropped when the salesman showed me all the doo-hickies and gadgets on the 4Runner. The Xterra is VERY back to basics and doesn't have half the gizmos and creature comforts the 4Runner has. In retrospect what really sold me on the 4Runner (besides Toyota reliability) was the whole layout of the truck. Toyota put some major overtime into overall design. It's the little details that impressed me. Plus, everything just seems so solid and well put together, I fell hard for the 4Runner.
My 4Runner was the only Sport on the lot. It's a dark gray color (don't really know what Toyota calls it) and it's a 2wd V6. I don't do any offroading or pulling so the 4wd or V8 were uncalled for. Overall I'm extremely happy with it and I have yet to figure out how to set my radio stations and so forth. Mmmmmm...new car smell.
